The bizarre episode raises the question: Is it normal for presidential candidates to insert themselves into global events by dialing up heads of state? In fact, Obama did pretty much the same thing — multiple times, no less — as a candidate during the 2008 campaign.

Indeed. My response would be to ask for his timeline on that. Clearly, if what PeterEU objects to came after the 11/8 election, it not certainly is not treason. Further, both the Hillary and Trump campaigns had contact with Russians, and many other nation's diplomats, as is the usual course of action in presidential elections.

Please cite the exact acts which were committed, and the exact statutes which were violated which would warrant such a thing.
