The present federal administration has recently cut spending for a program centered on reducing infant mortality.
I went to a map of states in the US which shows infant mortality rates. I was not at all surprised by what I found.

Regards, stay safe 'n well . . . informed.

Looks like Republican policies result in more infant deaths. Who knew?

In terms of state-by-state statistics, the U.S. can often be understood as a first world country wrapped around a third world country.

In the worst states for infant mortality, more than 99.1% of live births survive until age 1. In the best states for infant mortality, more than 99.7% of live births survive until age 1.

So are you suggesting that these infant deaths are reasonably low and therefore acceptable?

Nope, but the assertion was that US states having less than 9 infant deaths per 1000 live births qualified as being “third world country” status.

My guess is that someone will say that the bad numbers are because of the blacks and Latina population and if you factor those out then those states are the bestest....

Thank you for the link. Once again the Great, Beautiful state of California leads the way.

I'm kicking myself for ever being a bit embarrassed to say I'm from NJ.

Shh…let them think we are “dirty Jersey”

It’s crowded enough as it is here 😂
Ken Burns has an American Revolution series coming to PBS November 16, and he talked about the brutal sacrifice of New Jersey Americans during the revolution, and it was only rivaled to that degree by South Carolina. South Carolina and Jersey, among others, would fight a war against each other 90 years later. We are now again very far from common interest in this country.
Edit: Just realized how far off topic this post is. Sorry.
