'President-elect Donald Trump fired off Sunday morning with a Tweetstorm (after again complaining about the "totally biased, not funny " Saturday Night Live), and in a series of six tweets threatened heavy taxes as "retribution" for U.S. companies that move their business operations overseas, fire US workers and still try to sell their product to Americans. Trump vowed he would slap a 35% tax on products sold inside the U.S. by any business that fired American workers and built a new factory or plant in another country.

The president-elect tweeted that his administration will "substantially reduce taxes and regulations on businesses. But any business that leaves our country for another country," he added, "fires its employees, builds a new factory or plant in the other country, and then thinks it will sell its product back into the U.S. ......without retribution or consequence, is WRONG!"

Trump said there will be a 35 percent tax on the country's "soon to be strong border" for companies that leave and then want to sell their products back to U.S. consumers. "This tax will make leaving financially difficult, but.....these companies are able to move between all 50 states, with no tax or tariff being charged," the president-elect tweeted.'

He's right but ultimately Congress needs to act. I doubt the executive office can unilaterally impose the tax.

Here comes the liberals whinging about "what about Carrier" in 3....2.....1....

That's nothing new. He's been saying that right along.

Think how ridiculous it is to let companies close plants, void union contracts, fire thousands, take their plants overseas AND sell back to the American people with no consequences.

It's about time.

I think President Elect Trump is wise to get companies to think twice before making moves that may not be necessary in the future.

I can't blame companies for responding to policies that force them to offshore jobs in order to stay in business, or meet the demands of their shareholders. With changes in policy that are promised in the future, these companies should probably shelve immediate plans to move operations and see what transpires in the future.

The Globalists are hopefully in for a very painful extraction from the economy and polices that have been directing it.

Right now companies are rethinking their plans to move jobs from the United States! To the average American worker that is a great thing.
Why is the media so surprised this is what Trump is saying? He has said this over and over during the campaign. Business as usual is over!
Note to the media: get use to the Twitter messages from Trump. He is NOT going to let you distort his message! Gotta love it!!

Ummm...it's called free enterprise.

So, if a company cannot make a profit in the United States...what do you propose they do? Go out of business? That will result in just as many jobs lost...probably more.

The Executive can impose some very costly regulations.

Lower taxes, lift some unnecessary regulations; fijd out why they can't make money. If their products are weak, then moving to another country isn't going to fix anything.

I thought Hillary was the anti-freedom candidate. I guess there is no freedom to look for cheaper labor without fear of being punished by populists like you.

not sure if the third grader in chief can unilaterally impose a 35% tariff, but i've been wrong before. the real question is will he make the trains run on time?

Putting a tax on imports is part of our system, too. We do it all the time.

We charge taxes for imports every single day. Have for many years. Companies get a break because they incorporated in Delaware? Why??

Who called HC an anti-freedom candidate? Not me. I just think she's morally bankrupt.

I don't think you understand the scope of Trump's argument. At all. He's not talking about increasing tariffs alone, he's talking about actively punishing companies for looking to lower their production costs. In short, if you run a company, and it's cheaper for you to produce your trinkets in China... government officials are looking to punish you. If anybody voted for Trump thinking they'd get rid of the IRS, he just made sure they have jobs prosecuting companies who commit the abhorrent crime of looking to lower labor costs.

Moreover, if a company comes over here and is vehemently anti-Union the government will back them or better yet stand against the unions of the American people (see: Scott Walker)...... But if that company goes abroad to places where they're even more anti-union (see: Burmas, Cambodias and Taiwans of the worlds) to cheapen its production costs.... then that company should be punished?

How can you not realize the inherent contradiction in Trump's position?

I would like to know where you are getting this information... specifically that his plan is to tax companies who manufacture overseas unless they are closing a factory here... and that he wants the gvmt to favor anti-union business startups. I don't believe it is as you are portraying.

Uhg, why ? Nothing free enterprise about protectionism.

You grow and sustain free market economies by incentivizing private capital investment, not force and Govt retribution and threats.

Government, lower capital gains taxes, lower Corporate tax rates, lower tax on overseas profits brought back over the border, and do away with draconian job kiling regulations and then get the hell out of the way !

His " infrastructure investment " scheme is as bad or worse. No, " America's infrastructure isn't failing," California's infrastructure is falling along with a number of Democrat historical strong hold Stats and Cities that were run into the ground by Progressive polices

Make no bones about it, Americans are going to be on the hook for bailing out States like Cali

A 35% tax on a company strictly because it relocates a factory overseas?

No...America has NEVER done that.

And I will ask again...what do you propose a company does that cannot make money manufacturing their products in America? Go out of business?

If we haven't been charging import fees on every product made outside of the United States that is then sold here, we should be. If they can't make money manufacturing their products and selling them in the United States and DON'T want to pay a tax? Let them sell their products where they manufacture them.

You don't see a problem with companies like Nike paying people overseas slave wages to manufacture their shoes, not paying a fair share of corporate taxes, and then lining their stockholders' pockets with their bounty? We don't let foreign companies do that. Why on EARTH should we let our OWN companies do that?

News flash - Trump is a globalist.

News flash - Doesn't appear so, does it?

Perhaps there are people who need some lessons on what the difference is between someone who owns business interests around the globe, and what a globalist is.

Trump has hotels, recreation facilities, office buildings, in dozens of cities worldwide. All very happily accept and advertise for US citizens to visit. Perhaps that would be a place to start. A 35% tax on any US citizen choosing to vacation or set up an office in a foreign country. Wouldn't that money be better spent visiting the Grand Canyon or making Chicago their headquarters?

The bottom line. It makes no sense attempting to solve a problem of those acting in their best interest by penalizing them. Better to fix the problems. That would be providing a more favorable business environment in the US.

Link and your definition of globalist please.

Look up where his clothing line was made. He profited off the global economy. He has no intention of stopping others from doing the same.

All the money for his buildings? Where do you think it came from? Banks, maybe? Large multinational bank corporations?

What does this even mean? What is WRONG with people?? Now a president can't own businesses? They're only eligible if they work for a W2 or on welfare? WTF.

Did Trump have a clothing manufacturing plant in the USA, void union contracts and ship those jobs overseas? Apple meet orange.

OMFG!! He borrowed money from banks!!! The bastard.

Have you ever owned a business? Would you kindly refrain from denigrating those who do?
