Since McConnel became the leader of the Senate 15 years ago, Republicans have marched as one solid and unbeatable party. With the advent of Trump becoming president, that has begun to change as Trump is asking for McConnell's ouster.

Mitch McConnell stiff-arms Trump as ex-president calls for his demotion

Trump lately has escalated his feud with McConnell by advocating for his removal as the Senate minority leader. “Mitch is not the guy, not the right guy, he’s not doing the job,” he told Fox News’s Sean Hannity. McConnell’s reaction has been the same — no reaction; and not the slightest hint of altering his leadership strategy to satisfy a former president who happens to maintain a great deal of support among grassroots Republican voters.

Peronsally, I am ecstatic that this is happening given that it is splitting the party in two (Trumpers on one side and Republicans) on the other with the Trumpers having the advantage. With Trump being a totally incompetent person, should the Trumpers win this fight, it virtually guarantees the death of the Republican Party.

These two people totally represent what the party wants to accomplish. These are the "leaders" of the party and now they are fighting-to-the-death between themselves.

I would like to know how the Republicans and the Trumpers feel about this and what they are going to do about it. We are seeing some of this happening among Democrats (Manchin and Sinema) but the split there is minor with only a couple of people splitting (somewhat) from what the party wants to accomplish and even then the split is resolvable. In the case of the Republican Party, this split is becoming 50-50 or even 60-40 in favor of Trump. Such disagreement is at the root of the party and that is not something that can be fixed easily.

What say you Republicans and Trumpers? Are they both using their heads? Is Trump shooting his left foot to avenge the damage to his right one (losing election)? Is this a smart thing to do?

The problem for the Elites...you know, that "one solid and unbeatable party"...who was constantly in the minority, btw...is that they don't control the Republican Party anymore. The rank and file...those people who already showed us they are sick and ****ing tired of the Elites back in 2016...is in control.

McConnell still has power in the Senate, but it's leaking away from him. I predict he's going to do a Flake...and retire in the not-too-distant future.

we all knew that one of Donald Trump's only tools in his bag was "chaos". we've known that since the 1980s.

now we're simply having to live it (while the asshole was president) and watch it (as he throws his never ending tantrum while supported by "men").

none of this surprises me or anyone that was paying attention.

Trump was a one off. He won an election during a perfect storm of events unlikely to ever happen again. He is done now but can continue to divide the party. He is a sinking ship and will take down anyone with him

I was not asking for an explanation of what the problem is. I was asking what people like you (a Trumper) are going to do to prevent the death of the party from occurring. McConnell was (and still is) a pillar of the Republican Party and if a "pillar" gets demolished, the building is likely to collapse and that includes you. What are you going to do about it? Point to the problem?

Not true, sadly. Trump was a totally incompetent president and he still appeals to huge numbers of totally incompetent voters. He's damaging the country and will do so until the day he dies. Cult leaders are like that.

McConnell is holding on to his power remarkably well. He has all his Senators in line and his ducks in a row in his current game of chicken with the Democrats. I don't think the Trumptard wing of the party can so much as scratch him. The only thing he has to fear is Wall Street yanking its' money out from under him.

1. I'm not a Republican and I don't really care if the party "collapses". I don't care if the Democratic party collapses, either.

2. The Republican party won't collapse if McConnell is out of the picture. Someone will take his place. Hopefully it won't be someone just like him.

Keep the faith, brother!

After McConnell retires in shame, doubtless Trump will emerge from his escalating legal woes to reveal that he was actually Joe Biden the whole time.

yawn...

You expect a response to this useless remark? Okay. Here it is...

You are dismissed.

Oh Mycroft, I don't care who you reply to, just please don't stop.

You've been banging that gong for a while now, and it just seems like things aren't going great for Trump.

Maybe you've heard differently. What's the good news from Trump's world lately? What was his latest masterstroke?

Far be it for me to speak for the Trumpeteers, but I never got the impression that they either cared for the Republican Party, or even for the government at large. Their very aim in electing Trump was to tear the government down, and they expressed no concern about it when he was fully engaged in doing just that. Just look at his cabinet picks.

Moreover, because their minority power is over leveraged, and they often live in an echo chamber of like-minded cohorts, they believe they can prevail over both Republicans and Democrats, despite all the evidence to the contrary. Failing that, their fallback position is civil war - or its equivalent. But to Trumpists, the big bad gub'mint, and the power behind it that pulls the strings, must go. They certainly have no allegiance to McConnell.

I know you are not a Republican, you are a die-hard idolizing Trumper through and through. He is gone now even though he wants to come back. If the Republican party is no longer, you believe he can win being an independent? Who will vote for him, other than other idolizers?

If this debate board is any kind of an example, he may get 20% of the vote. No more than 1 in 5 on this board are idolizers like you and I may be wrong in it being 20%. It could be 15% or even 10%. Trump has NO CHANCE to win without the Republican Party behind him. If he gets rid of McConnell, he will lose a huge portion of those. Many people idolize McConnell as they idolize Trump. He has been the leader for the party for far longer than Trump.

Hes done in politics. I doubt many will want him to endorse them in the midterms.

Trump is dead in politics now

If the republican party collapses, the people in the party will still exist.
Not as a voting block they won't. They will lose their power to get any kind of legislation done. They will be "homeless" and you know what that means, don't you? No power to get anything they want done.

So far, they're still seeking his endorsement. We'll see how the mid-terms go.

They will still vote.

But the voters will still vote.
Maybe, maybe not. Trump mobilized a lot of previously non-voters. Without Trump they may slide back into non-voting. Trump also drove away a lot of moderate Republicans who are now independents. What's left is a rump party with declining influence.
