In Baltimore schools, free meals for all - Baltimore Sun
june 2 2015
For the first time in the history of the school lunch program, all children in Baltimore are created equal.
Beginning this week, every student in the city, regardless of income level, is being offered free breakfast and lunch under a federal program that allows school districts to eliminate a decades-old meal-subsidy structure for students in high-poverty schools.
Baltimore is among a handful of districts in Maryland taking advantage of the opportunity that was opened to schools nationwide last year. Maryland schools are able to adopt the program under state legislation passed this year in the General Assembly
Why are we giving these brats free breakfast.? Why can't their parents feed them a breakfast.? Parents should also pack a lunch for the kids.
You do realize this is not limited to Baltimore? They do it in my city. I'm not about to complain that kids are getting fed.
I see no problem with this. I think part of the public school system should include meals as well. .
Why can't the parents feed their own kids.? Oh yeah - they'd rather spend their money on drugs and lotto.
OK - then don't complain about taxes. Money is taken from you and used to feed someone else's kids because those parents won't do it.

I'm already taxed for a great many things. Some of which is helpful to America, others of which are destructive. Feeding kids falls on the helpful side.
I think when considering where my tax dollars go, the cost of feeding children is probably one of the areas I'm happiest with.
This does not help america. It helps the kids and their parents who are getting more freebies, but it's all paid for by others. Just another transfer of money from working americans to deadbeats.
That's how deadbeats look at it. They're very happy with someone else paying for their kids meals.

In Los Angeles, they also provide dinners as well as year round meals. IMO this illustrates the Liberal/Progressive effort to turn parents into breading stock supplying future dependents of the state.
It used to be that even among the poorest families, they were still able to provide meals for their children. That is a commitment the state feels they should no longer trust to the carbon based units they tolerate as suppliers to their system.

Another compassionate conservative.
So you support the state eliminating parents? I'm not sure how to classify that. I'm pretty sure they've made movies about though.

Weird you take that view. I think it shows people's outlook on life in how the view something that is normally considered straightforward.
I take the view that it's an investment in the future ensuring no kid lacks the proper nutrition during one of the most important times in the development of their brains and cognitive abilities.
I'm not complaining about my tax dollars feeding children. Why are you?
