If the Ukrainian or Taiwanese government sent an army into Russia or China respectively and targeted innocent Russian/Chinese civilians for rape and slaughter because they sought to rid themselves of all Russian/Chinese neighbors, I would imagine there would be a considerable amount of sympathy for the inevitable Russia/China invasion to remove those respective governments with force, to the unfortunate detriment of any innocent Ukrainian/Taiwanese civilians that these governments might use as human shields.

Indeed. What about the Uyghurs? I can’t remember the last time I heard/read anything about them in the mainstream media.

In general, mainstream media doesn’t have a big ‘market’ for calling attention to victimized peoples - even those facing genocide. I recall the Hutu and Tutsi genocides of ‘93 & 94 in Barundi and Rwanda. Barely a blip on anybody’s radar, and frankly quite an embarrassment for “western” countries, who did little or nothing to publicize it, let alone act to stop it.
