Television programs can fend off loneliness

This explains why my depression was exacerbated by the rumors one of my favorite TV shows "Chuck" might be canceled and why I was able to rebound and reduce my medication intake upon the news that it would indeed be back for another season.
Now seriously I have no idea what this study cost but I could have told them this for a cool $20. All you have to do is observe the way children carry on when they watch Hanna Montana or any one of the programs they latch onto. Then watch them when that show is not available or just ends. We were hearing the term one eyed baby sitter a long time back. Another example is the way some women become all consumed in Soap Operas. Same thing.
I believe we have fewer attachments to each other as we once did at all levels.
I believe this qualifies as Weird news or is it just tragic. The Headline could have just as easy been. TV replaces Family closeness even Mom & Dad.

Stomach growling, but have no time for a meal? A snack will do. Drowsy and unable to concentrate? A short nap can be reviving when a good night’s rest is unavailable. But what should you do when you are alone and feeling lonely?
New psychological research suggests that loneliness can be alleviated by simply turning on your favorite TV show. In the same way that a snack can satiate hunger in lieu of a meal, it seems that watching favorite TV shows can provide the experience of belonging without a true interpersonal interaction.
