Why is it that often, posting an image in image tags, appears not to work, instead displaying a little graphic as a substitute, but when I edit the post to see if I can see an error or change it, the image displays fine in the edit window? It's hard to know if other people see the error image or the correct image, or how to fix this. An example is the first of two images in post 20 in this thread:

@HIP56948 @CaughtInThe If that's the answer, why do the images display fine in the edit window? Do you see both images in the post I listed or only one?

Well, that IMG address doesn't have a image file extension at the end of the filename (.jpg, .png, .gif). It actually goes to an html page which serves up the image – the DP software is probably expecting an actual image file at the address in the [IMG] tags. This is the "image" address from your post:

https://www.charlotteobserver.com/opinion/editorial-cartoons/kevin-siers/3ye2w4/picture183528111/alternates/FREE_1140/SIERS110917

You may be able to see it when others can't because your device already downloaded the image, stored it locally (cached), and knows what resource that web address leads to. If you preview your message to see how it looks when posted, any broken image links should probably give you the "no image" graphic. How the DP software resolves the image URLs seems to differ when editing as opposed to previewing or posting.

The easiest way to get the image to show for everyone is to use an image host on the web that allows you to enter a URL to upload from and then use the resulting image address from the host's server. (You could also download the image to your device and then upload that to an image host.) For example, using the original URL on imgbb.com uploaded this following image file to their servers:

https://i.ibb.co/KmDjmVQ/SIERS110917.jpg

Which gives you the picture:

SIERS110917.jpg

Here's one that is a .png. I post it with img tags. Posted, I see an error graphics. But if I edit the post, I see the correct graphic. Not sure how to fix it.

Interesting. I edited your post to see if it would do the same thing.
