As always, we need to do two "opposite" things with a single common purpose ...

1) We need to be skeptical about the validity of gender transition therapy, which has always seemed like a rather outlandish way to deal with people who object to the facts of life. That includes being very cautious about how it is implemented on children. This sort of skepticism is also known in Europe. (As always, the U.S. jumps straight over any sane middle ground, and either bans it or mandates parents must accept it, but nothing in between)

2) We need to be absolutely supportive of people who violate gender stereotypes, mix gender roles, or violate the Sacred Laws of fashion, or are or were transgender. The Who put out a great song about transgender called "I'm a Boy", talking about a girl who wants to ride her bike across the street, cut herself and see her blood, come home all covered in mud... Back then, the implication of the song was obvious: there's no reason why girls can't do that! Nowadays, liberals have been saddled with this crazy notion well maybe she really should be a boy, as if that were a fix for social injustice.

The thing is, there's nothing inherently gender- or sex-related about stupid fashion fascism. Take this shooter's maundering over whether he should have long hair or not. This has nothing to do with being male or female. Before Cromwell and his silly roundheads the idea wouldn't have come up. Goons cut off long hair and claim it makes them less female, but they also shave off their beards ... which obviously makes them more female. The military even has absurd rules, which made it harder for armed forces members in Afghanistan, demanding that men do this thing - which is essentially a daily transgender ritual - which isolated them from the local people while they were trying to win "hearts and minds". (Yeah, I know there was the historical reason of lice ... but there are chemical treatments nowadays, and we do NOT have a lousy army!)

There is no evidence at all that sanity on these issues would have stopped the shooting. Gender dysphoria is classified as a sort of mental health condition that can progress to suicide in some cases - there has been some tap dancing in the history regarding whether it is an "illness" or "disorder". It is not in and of itself a "threat to self or others" and I hope that this one incident is not used as a prop to disarm transgender people who carry guns for very real self-defense needs. But in this kid's case, perhaps this was simply one symptom of a deeper problem, a true madness? Apparently one cause of such a derangement would likely be social isolation - the result of successively violating both of the principles above, rushing the kid too rapidly into a transgender status he didn't want, and failing to accept her as part of normal social culture afterward?

You don't. You can only make sure that sufficient mental health resources are available for the people that need them. We have a lot of progress to make in that regard. The state of mental healthcare in this country is abysmal, and no politician on either side of the aisle is doing a damn thing about it. It's shameful, and everyone blaming the other side for mass shootings is part of the problem, including you.

I'm much better than I once was, lol......haven't been banned in a while. It is difficult at times from being attacked from all sides on this far left leaning forum......but I will try harder.

I think the transgender thing is incidental. These people are just lost souls, desperate to latch their identities on to something that will give their lives meaning. If it wasn't transgenderism, it would be something else. Mental illness is the real issue, and to solve that, we need a national investment in mental healthcare infrastructure. We need new facilities, and we need new personnel to staff them. We need to modify and refine our approach to providing care. It won't be easy, but it's the best option we have.

I'm not sure if the transgender mass killings are incidental. Young adults carrying out unthinkable acts towards innocent children says something.....wonder if there's a connection to their childhood and the Catholic Church if they were abused in some way.

But, you are right and I agree mental illness is the real issue and the consistent theme of arguing for or against 'guns' after each shooting is a total waste of time. This is extreme abnormal behavior and needs to be addressed as such, instead of hoping to use it as political leverage.

Personally, I think a large part of this problem stems from the internet, cell phones, social media, etc.....with young minds seeing/hearing things way, way before they should.....it must be confusing. Cyber bullying, cameras on phones at every turn, they are used as tools and weapons on others. Seeing everybody walk around with their nose stuck in their phone, not paying a bit of attention to others or their surroundings is strange, imo. I have purposefully made sure I am not tethered to my phone.

People who don't care about solving the actual problem will play politics, like they always do. They'll try and find a way to blame the other side, even if it doesn't make sense. But mental health is almost always the root cause of mass shootings in America. It doesn't take a psychology degree to figure that out.
