If you HAD to choose between life in a left-wing authoritarian or right-wing authoritarian?

By that definition, then, all left wing states are authoritarian and no right wing states are.

The problem is, everyone has their own definition of the terms "left wing" and "right wing."

The Philippines perhaps under Duterte. Are there any others? Historically, several right-wing authoritarian governments have brought about prosperity by pursuing policies that are "good for business".

Where does Russia fall? It's leader, Putin is former KBG, which means ties to Communism, however, some now refer to Putin as right-wing.

Actually, I mentioned this because I would like to attempt to live under a right-wing dictatorship if the opportunity were to present itself. For the left wing side, I already spent a couple months poking around Cuba. If one were receiving US retirement money, Cuba is tolerable. However, it doesn't take much to piss off the authorities and get thrown out of the country. Providing an impromptu programming class is enough to get a tap on the shoulder and a warning for violating the state education monopoly.
