If we had an Autoban?

I have driven about 1000 km on the Autostrate,
I recall it had a speed limit of about 83 mph, but that was for the right lane, and seemed to be treated as a suggestion only.

If you’re in the left lane and you see those led ringed headlamps behind you, it’s best to get over. Left lane US drivers are the number one gripe for me.

So the steering wheel on the left side? That would make driving on the left really weird.
It was, a co worker told me to remember shoulder to shoulder. To keep your left shoulder near the left curb. It also did not help that the roads are narrow and hilly.

I think I don't ever want to drive in St Thomas!

My favorites are the lane splitting bikers busting 80 in interstate rush hour.
I never do that at more than 30, usually in stopped or very slow traffic. It didn't stop a twat in a BMW swerving across the lane line to block me! It was shocking in a way, because a stranger tried to harm me for no reason other than him being held up and me passing him. There was room to swerve by, so I did, and he got the finger, but still.

I visited my sister, she was living in Ireland for a year or two. She had a company vehicle, a very small panel truck with a large “L” placard on the windscreen. We went to a pub one afternoon and on leaving she tossed me the keys. After figuring out which door was the driver’s, I drove about ten feet and said, “nope!”

If you got 23 minutes to spare, this will be worth it:

So I take it you were never employed by the USPS? 😂

How about a diverging diamond interchange? This is what they did on my perfectly straignt road over interstate 85. You want to talk about white knuckling it? View attachment 67529788
Oh, the 'continuous flow'. I had to pull the Trains Airplanes and Automobiles 'you're going the wrong way a while back at the one my area has. At least they were on script and looked at me in confusion. 😂 😞

Not sure about current rules, but Euro vehicles used to have a compulsory speed limiter set to (I think) 153mph. Damn annoying ;) !! I used to sometimes fly to my office in Den Hague and then drive to my Dusseldorf office via an autobahn. Usually with my Dutch country manager with his M3 sitting near the speed limiter for much of the journey. Was still normal to see other cars with obviously no limiter go screaming past.

This round-a-bout was between me and one of my large UK customers. I honestly had to pull over before the roundabout and then try to follow someone else through it for the first 4 or 5 times I went that way. I also got introduced to 3 lane roads where both directions could use the centre lane for passing. They were phasing those out at the time for pretty obvious reasons.

I did that on a Roadking in California, it’s nuts, but is is an adrenaline rush!
I think that I've been up to about 65 MPH on a motorcycle. In the era of smartphones, I'm nervous to get on one at all. I'm not quite at never again, but I'm getting there.

That's nuts!

In Canada when we switched to metric a parody party suggested we should also go to left hand drive.

Their proposal was that it be phased in, starting with trucks and busses.
