"If guns make us safe... [W:17, 106]

Now I am Google Map looking at Chicago but I do not see black markets from here. Perhaps some links would do?

Use google "web" search not "maps" it is quite easy to find. Why else would a strict gun control area have a plethora of guns?

He's just being condescending. Everyone knows Chicago is the murder capitol.

Your still missing the point. Our free society does not have and cannot have a 'gun license inspector'. Freedom is not free or guaranteed safe. Back to the 4th. Where is probable cause to force some one for an expensive scan and who pays for it. "Sure you can exercise your 2nd amendment right, right after you pay this 10,000 dollar medical bill."

It should be free of charge.

In Chicago guns are illegal that is why. Instead of making guns illegal they should make it illegal to some rather than everyone. See then everyone goes to the black market making police work difficult. If only murderers go there though things could be different.

Because I have the ability to make my own decisions. That's why. America is the most free country on the planet, though we are slowly becoming what this country fought a war and shed blood to get away from.
Freedom is dangerous.
How can you deny that fact?

I suppose it's dangerous if you're someone who makes really bad decisions.
I'm not American, I make my own decisions and there's been little risk involved since I recovered from my adrenaline addiction.

Re: "If guns make us safe... [W:18]

You're very conspicuously forgetting that a big part of the danger of household guns is negligent discharge.

I am fully aware of negligent discharges. I don't care. You claimed bringing a gun in the home is irresponsible. Negligent discharges only occur when an irresponsible party handles a firearm. So what relevance does this have to responsible gun owners?

You should have claimed that brining a firearm into the house increases risk. That would have been an intelligent comment that could not be denied. But your claim is that the ownership of and use of an inanimate object is irresponsible. In reality it is HOW an object is used that determines whether or not someone is responsible. That is undeniable. No rational adult would disagree with that logic.

There is a sickening denialism of the inherent danger of guns on display in this thread.

No. I am fully aware of the dangers and risk of firearms ownership. But because you are scared of heights means I can't responsibly use a ladder?

Re: "If guns make us safe... [W:18]

I live in a village where almost every person has a gun. In most homes, a large number, because it is passed from fathers, to sons and grandsons. We never have a crimes, and the doors of houses and cars are not locked, even at night.
When I lived in New York city , my cars was 5 times broken in and crackers twice tried to get into my apartment.
I think there is no need to explain where life safer and what making life safer.

Re: "If guns make us safe... [W:18]

I spent three years in Iraq, during my stay at no time was my m4 or sig ever unloaded (except when I was cleaning them) know how many "negligent discharges" there were? Zero. I ate, slept, and went to the latrine "locked and loaded"

I also grew up around guns, I attended the hunter safety course as a kid, and was an avid hunter and shot targets as a hobby, I never had a "negligent discharge" then either.

I think these happen to people for two reasons, they are ignorant of how to maintain/operate a fire arm or they are stupid(lazy).

The gun is not dangerous the person is dangerous. If someone feels they can't be responsible with a fire arm, then they shouldn't get one, but wanting to prevent anyone from having them because they don't think they can be trusted with one is silly.

Re: "If guns make us safe... [W:18]

My point is that it is stupid and irresponsible to keep a gun in your house.

I don't think I got any answer, and the question is worth repeating: Do you also hold the opinion that it is stupid and irresponsible to drive a car, climb a ladder, ski, use a saw, drive a tractor, chop firewood, or get pregnant?

Re: "If guns make us safe... [W:18]

My point is that it is stupid and irresponsible to keep a gun in your house.

It is fine for you to be very afraid and not have any of those dangerous guns in your house.

It is also for you to be afraid of doggies, and not have one of those, either.

Do not try and force the rest of us to embrace your fears and insecurities.

Next thing we know, you will want the rest of us to watch Barney on PBS.

I will pass on your insecurities - please keep then to yourself and leave the rest of us alone.

Re: "If guns make us safe... [W:18]

Freedom comes with a cost. If you want to be safe and policed, move to Saudi Arabia. Crime stats wise, it's one of the safest places on earth. Just don't be a woman, speak out against the government, look at the morality police the wrong way, swear, drink, smoke, skip, hop, dance, skip prayer, read....you get the idea.

Freedom. It's worth it. Does it come with a high price tag? Sure. What's the alternative? Public hangings and getting stoned to death for starters. Maybe that's a bit extreme. We could always use G.B. for an example. Like candid camera? Big brother? Good, you're on it 24/7. Feel safer already?

Guns are the equalizer. It reminds the powers that if you push us, we can party too. If 2A didn't exist, post lincoln, I fear this country would look more like Maoist China. We have been overrun with statists and power hungry fools since Lincoln paved the way for them. No guns, with our current policies in place, welcome to the ussa comrade.
