The myriad of reasons why the Republicans lost the elections is pretty obvious.

For any Republican man considering following in the footsteps of Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) or failed Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock by making insensitive comments about rape, be forewarned: former George W. Bush adviser Karen Hughes will be very displeased.
In an op-ed in Politico last week offering advice to the GOP in the wake of their defeats on Tuesday -- which included Mourdock and Akin, who lost a bid for Missouri Senate -- Hughes lashed out particularly harshly against Republicans responsible for controversial remarks about rape and abortion.
"And if another Republican man says anything about rape other than it is a horrific, violent crime, I want to personally cut out his tongue," she wrote. "The college-age daughters of many of my friends voted for Obama because they were completely turned off by Neanderthal comments like the suggestion of 'legitimate rape.'"
While Hughes' language is quite graphic, the underlying advice appears solid. A host of Republican candidates who drew fervent criticism for their comments about rape ended up losing last week.

Note to everyone: Minimizing rape is a losing issue.

The core of the problem though is not that those conservative candidates just say those things, it's the fact that they sometimes actively put forth legislation that reflects those views.

no the republicans can still win elections on the denial platform

Abortion restrictions gain steam in the states

Abortion opponents have tried to stay on the offensive since Mississippi voters in November rejected a constitutional amendment declaring that life begins at conception. Dubbed "personhood," the amendment would have virtually guaranteed a legal challenge to the 1973 Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.

Though other states have passed similar measures requiring women to have ultrasounds, Oklahoma’s law goes further, mandating that a doctor or technician set up the monitor so the woman can see it and describe the heart, limbs and organs of the fetus. No exceptions are made for rape and incest victims.

But other restrictions could stand to reshape what access to abortion looks like, especially those that restrict private insurance coverage of the procedure. Prior to the health reform debate, this wasn’t really an issue: It was so little discussed that data on how many plans offer coverage is relatively sparse, although one Kaiser Family Foundation study from 2002 says 87 percent do pay for the procedure (anti-abortion groups have, however, disputed that number.)

No exception anti-choice legislation, states defining person hood, anti-free market policies. If Obama restricted McChurches in this way, we wouldn't stop hearing about the oppression of those poor multimillionaire crooks in robes.

A) This wasn't meant to be a debate or opportunity for people to branch into personhood and the like. I merely wanted to see an example of the legislation that Cilogy was referring too. He provided it, I responded, that's it.
B) You delved into whole other subjects that have nothing to do with rape leading to abortion. I'm not getting into a debate about personhood with anyone because it always ends in a stalemate with neither side budging. I have better things to do.
C) What is McChurches? Another attempt like your quote line at offending Christians? And yet if I had a quote line saying that all gays are going to burn, if you have an abortion you are a murderer, or something of that nature I would be a bigot correct? Take a hike bro. You merely look to incite insults and anger rather than honest debate.

LOL McChurches

Of course the legitimate rape part of the comment was likely a reference to the old consensual teen BF over 18 and GF under 18 scenario, but that got lost in the election rhetoric.....

Maybe but, if so, they did a HORRIBLE job of illustrating that.

Perhaps, but then again elections bring out soundbites that seldom reveal real intent in comments by either side.

A very true statement my friend. I hate our media.

If you feel in insulted by my sig, then it's because you understand the truth behind it. Normal people don't get insulted by things which aren't true.

Could have been worse. She could have chosen a part of the anatomy other than tongue.
His brain stem? Higher rate of cure, too, because the tongue isn’t were dumb ideas are stored and the ROOT problem isn’t saying dumb things … unless you are primarily concerned with [winning at] partisan politics rather than expunging dumb ideas from this world/Congress.
