What makes you think so?

Hard right?

Well as far as money they're all big spenders the left and right alike.

However I do think the war against Muslim extremists has caused the left to start behaving in bizarre ways. They took a hard right in my opinion.

For the past two years I've watched them apologize for whacked out extreme religious behavior, as long as it's Muslim.

I've listened to them explain away horrible treatment of women and violation of human rights in favor of playing Muslim apologists.

Hell I've heard some of them flat out assert Muslim women like being treated like garbage and thus it's not a human rights issue.

I've listened to them attack Palin viciously because she has kids and some of them came damn close to saying she belongs back in the kitchen!!!!

So yeah, they've taken a whacked out impossible to explain hard right.

The party as a whole is moderate-left. The "news worthy" members of the party (San Fran) are more hard-left.

On what issues, and compared to whom?

Compared to the Republicans, they would be left-wing. Compared to the Social Democrats in Europe, they would be right-wing.

On certain issues (i.e. civil rights) they are generally left-wing libertarians. On other issues (i.e. trade) an alarming number of them tend to be right-wing nationalists.

Center-Right.

Thankfully, it seems the era of accusing regulation/progressive tax rates/affordable tuition of being communistic is over.

In terms of world politics, I'd say center... maybe center right.

In terms of U.S. politics, I'd say center-left, but mostly because the base of the Democratic Party has grown to the point that the "hard left" Kucinich type of Democrats have been completely marginalized and a the "moderate left" types have been balanced out by the center and the center-left.

The mainstream of the Democrat party is centrist maybe a slight left leaning. These people who vote Democrat usually do so because the far left ideologues who scare them in to thinking that Conservatives are going to: take away their social security; take away their Medicare, bust up their Union; etc..
