This will be a thread dedicated to ideas of building better communities and a better society. Many of these ideas will center around new urbanism, infrastructure, public transportation, land-use, housing, banking. co-ops, etc. etc.

I intend for it to be a palette-cleanser to all the downer threads we get swamped with on this forum.

Yeah...thanks, but I'll just stay away from the cities. I prefer my small town.

Nobody is telling you to move to the cities. Not everything is about you and your Dear Leader. Now move along.
Well, it's hard to take you seriously if you use terms like "your dear leader".

Vast majority of his posts are North Korean-commie levels of devotion to Trump. You know this. We all know this. Now stick to the topic of the thread or move along.

Your deflection...and jerkness...is noted and rejected.

Bye.

A lot of my favorite urbanist channels there. Upzoning our cities for more walkable neighborhoods would be a big improvement. And I think you and I can agree that Georgism / land-value taxation would solve many problems with inefficient land use in our cities.

I do plan on including some georgist/lvt stuff, as well. ;)

I can't say I'm a big fan of that link that's pitching destroying capitalism or whatever. But America can learn a lot from the better proposals for good urbanism and land use, especially from Northern Europe and Japan.

Small towns can be better places by implementing good urbanism and land use policies too. Not every place needs to be Manhattan to have friendly public spaces, walkable neighborhoods, and inviting shops.

I've seen this! The ways we design our communities are absolutely insane! o_O
Newer suburban developments are often described as 'garagescape'.

In my grandparent's older neighborhood the garage or drive was off a lane at the back. The front had sidewalks on both sides of the street with grass and trees and the houses all had porches.

Trees, grass, sidewalks. No stinkin' driveways...

Most of the ideas that author pitches are anarchist-centered alternatives to a capitalist-centered society. I think many of them even a centrist could get behind, even if they don't agree with the ultimate goal.

Yeah, that's how my wife's grandparents' neighborhood was.

Ever heard of cottage courts? Wish they were more common:

My goodness, what a self-indulgent, socialist stroke job that essay was. Do you support what's proposed? More importantly, do you find the "42 ways" in any way likely to achieve their objective of "destroying capitalism?"
