A potentially groundbreaking microscope technology developed at Harvard University could revolutionize the way cancer is detected — but the only person who can read the images it captures has been in ICE detention for the last three months.

The 30-year-old scientist at the university took the technology to the next level when she developed computer scripts to read the images captured by the microscope. Kseniia Pertova's breakthrough allowed researchers to unlock the technology's full potential.

Petrova fled Russia in fear of prosecution since she actively opposed the country's invasion of Ukraine.

She was arrested on March 2, 2022, for protesting in Moscow against Russia's military incursion.

Petrova was legally in the US on a J-1 visa sponsored by Harvard so that she could work in the lab as a biomedical researcher.

Could be a deal made with Trump's hero.
She protested against the war in Ukraine, Putin is mad, Trump is kissing the ground he walks on...

All this shows is that the administration's policy is based solely on quota numbers and not in deporting the worst of the worst criminals like they sold it.

Stephen Miller is a xenophobic bigot and it doesn't matter who this hurts as long as his version of America is closer to being a reality.

They’ve pretty much gutted NIH funding, so she wouldn’t have any study to do anyway.

She should have discovered that America has immigration laws, and she should have followed them.

What she has now discovered is that the US has a lawless president. Must make her feel like home.

but she didn't respect our immigration laws did she

Ksenia Petrova's crime? Frog embryo samples used for cancer research were found in her luggage at Boston's Logan Airport. She had no previous experience with bringing medical samples into the US. Normally in such a case, the CBP is supposed to impose two penalties for typical customs violations: forfeiture of the item and a fine of usually about $500. They did not do that. Instead, they decided to punish her by canceling her visa. Ms. Petrova opted to return to Paris. So the CBP asked if she would like them to notify the Russian government of what happened at Logan, or notify the Russian Consulate? Petrova told them not to notify the Russian consulate, saying, “I cannot go to Russia. I will be persecuted there.” So the CBP detained her as an asylum candidate and flew her to Louisiana for a date before an asylum judge set for May 7. However, even if the immigration judge grants asylum, the Trump government can appeal and they can continue to keep her in detention. Why would the Trump government do that? Because Ms. Petrova is associated with Harvard University. Ms. Petrova is a PhD Graduate student at Harvard. She holds degrees in Biology and Computer Programming. If she is ever deported to Russia, Ms Petrova will be arrested, prosecuted, and sentenced to a Gulag for her open support of Ukraine.

In 2024, while visiting her family in Russia, Russian-American ballerina Ksenia Karelina was arrested and sentenced to 12 years in Putin's Gulag for donating $50 to a Ukraine charity. Ms. Karelina was recently swapped for a Russian prisoner held in the US.

Apparently she is a danger because she made an error on a customs form:

ICE has repeatedly denied the release of a Russian Harvard scientist, claiming that she is a 'danger to the community' for making a customs error when she attempted to transport frog embryos to her lab.

Kseniia Petrova, 30, a researcher at Harvard Medical School, was detained by Customs and Border Protection for failing to declare the scientific material properly at Boston Logan International Airport while she was returning from a trip to France on February 16.

but she broke our immigration laws
How so? Cite a source. Oh wait, you can't. See post 20. If that's not enough here's more:

On Feb. 16, customs officials detained her at Logan International Airport in Boston for failing to declare samples of frog embryos she had carried from France at the request of her boss at Harvard.

Such an infraction is normally considered minor, punishable with a fine of up to $500. Instead, the customs official canceled Ms. Petrova’s visa on the spot and began deportation proceedings.

But this doesn't make sense. Isn't an Anglo-Saxon female from Russia just the kind of immigrant the RW extremists promote? Melania is a perfect example of that. Who cares what she said about the Ukraine war.

He was talking about Russia's immigration laws. She didn't violate any American immigration laws, but a customs one. See, that's the kind of nuance that is missed in KGB training. Oh, sorry, it's FSB, now...

I am convinced that it is sheer numbers that they care about. That is why we are getting stories of trying to deport a Japanese student who organized a trip where someone caught too many fish.
