So why would Trump invent a hypothetical scenario, if not to demonstrate how out of control he is? Especially given that he is the lawbreaker-in-chief.

Out of 4,000 NG sent to LA, only 300 have been deployed. It doesn't take 4,000 troops to protect a federal building. What are the 700 marines for? They can't perform police duties. They weren't requested by anyone. Why are they there?

White House "border czar" Tom Homan told CBS News on Monday "there's no intention to arrest" California Gov. Gavin Newsom, after President Trump suggested he was open to the idea — escalating a war of words over the protests and law enforcement response in Los Angeles.

"That whole thing's been taken out of context," Homan said. "They haven't crossed a line yet … If you cross that line, I don't care who they are — the governor, the mayor, whatever — and when you commit a crime against ICE officers, we will seek prosecution."

The administration and Newsom have sharply criticized each other over the handling of the Los Angeles protests, which were sparked by Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions in the city. Mr. Trump has accused Newsom of failing to deal with violence and ordered Marines and National Guard troops to the city. Newsom responded with a lawsuit over the troop deployments and argues Mr. Trump is inflaming the situation.

Homan has suggested in the past that elected officials could be arrested if they are found to have impeded ICE. On Saturday, Homan didn't explicitly rule out arresting Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass in an interview with NBC News — though he didn't say arrests were coming, and said he doesn't believe Bass has "crossed the line yet."

Newsom later said: "Come and get me, tough guy."

When asked Monday about the idea of arresting Newsom, Mr. Trump said, "I'd do it if I were Tom," adding, "Gavin likes the publicity, but I think it would be a great thing."

But Homan told CBS News he'll "leave that up to" the Justice Department to determine whether anybody has impeded ICE.

"There's no intention to arrest the governor right now. I don't know if he crossed that line," Homan said.

In the interview with CBS News, Homan said it "absolutely was" necessary to send National Guard forces into Los Angeles, saying protesters had caused property damage and assaulted ICE agents.

Trump's idea of intimidation and provocation. It's quite simple really; send in the NG to provoke unrest, and then claim justification because the Marines had to be sent in to quell the unrest the NG provoked in the first place! The work of an authoritarian tyrant.
 
When are Americans going to wake the hell up and realize this is a virtual duplication of every third world dictatorship's default system of suppression of rights.

Americans are every day now seeing one more step towards their constitutional rights being as fragile as those in every other chit-hole country under the thumb of some authoritarian thug.

I assure you that any charges they come up with will be far more criminal than writing checks to pay off loans and legal fees that you were billed for by parties who agreed to do business with you; Huh?

California is spending massive amounts of Federal dollars on benefits for illegal aliens; Huh?

They have a $12 billion dollar deficit and rising. The reason they are burning cars in the streets is because if the dollars funding trans athletes, illegal immigrant health care and other things are taken away at the Federal level they'll be beyond broke; Huh? Name them?

California is like a teenager screaming that they are an adult with no job, no income and no responsibility but they have a big body and a little brain; Seems to me that you are a "teenager sceaming [are an adult] and I have a "little brain".

Etc, and "When they are arrested later for car theft then it's quite the wake up call"; no one of trump in their place and/or any other there too.
