I voted for…

It is not denying states that lean one direction or another, it is calling you out for telling someone their vote does not matter. Contemptable attitude.
Then your post is idiotic. Voting "I" for president in a bright-red state is akin to spitting in the ocean. It might make one feel good, but it makes zero difference on who is elected president. I stand by what I said.

Same here in north Idaho. Whose votes do matter? People who live in, what, five specific states? Five states out of 50? What the **** kind of system is this?
I know. We need to trash the Electoral college. It eliminates true democracy.

By the way, Idaho is a beautiful state. I was fortunate to have a work project there for about 10 years and spent a great deal of time there. As long as you're not a woman suffering an atopic pregnancy or a kid trying to transition to the gender for their choice, it's a great place to be!

Interesting. So, we are supposed to view only for candidates who are more likely to win?

I ask because, in Alabama, Trump is going to win; Harris has no chance. Should Democrats in Alabama vote Trump in order to not "throw away their vote"?
Cite the Alabama polls.

No, as I've said repeatedly and supported with logic--something Kamala supporters seem to have a deficit of--I made a protest vote against Trump in a state where Kamala has no chance of winning electors. This is why neither candidate has visited here since 2022. I also voted to reelect the Republican candidates for the House and Senate. But I'll make the same request of you that I made of @Crakhobarbie. Show me--logically--how I "threw my ballot into the trash." You won't, because you can't. 🤷‍♂️
Then cite the Mississippu poll that supports your contention.

Guessing? No. Kamala will carry Jackson and the Delta—where the Democrats and low-achieving schools are—and that’s it. The Trump voters—and national Blue Ribbon schools—are in the Republican part.
Then cite the polls.

Then cite the Mississippu poll that supports your contention.

You claim your position is supported by logic, but you've offered none. A lack of evidence in and of itself is not evidence. The reason there are polls for a small state like Nevada and not Mississippi is KAMALA HAS LITTLE TO NO CHANCE OF WINNING HERE! :D Can you name ONE Democratic strategist who's placed Mississippi in the Kamala column or indicated she has a shot here? No, you can't. Why? BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ONE! :D

Way, way past time to fix or ditch the electoral system.

Reminds me of the old saying about pissing one’s pants while wearing a dark suit.

Backtrack all you need to, telling people their vote does not matter aligns you to Trump. He’d be proud of you.

So you cant support your assumption with a citation?
Oh my goodness.

Then cite the polls.

I don't have to. I have demographic and historical election data to support that claim. You can count on your fingers and toes the number of Republicans in Jackson and the Delta combined. What they have in Jackson in abundance are criminals, shitty schools, and Democrats who had a hard time keeping the water on, including a "political revolutionary" mayor.

Cite the Alabama polls.
Last time anyone bothered to poll Alabama, Trump was up by about 20 something points.

Trump is going to win Alabama. He's going to win Mississippi. Harris is going to win California. She's going to win New York.

Should Democrats in Alabama, Texas, West Virginia, and South Carolina all vote for Trump, lest they "throw their votes away"? Is the purpose of voting to try to identify which team is going to win, so we can hustle over to that side and say that we supported it?

Out of curiosity, what state are you in?

Heh. Yeah, the politics here are ridiculous. One thing that we've noticed during this election cycle though -- there are lots and lots of political signs for local races, but Trump signs are not usually among them. There are only a few here and there for Trump. He won the state in 2020 by a 2 to 1 margin, so he'll get Idaho's 4 Electoral College votes, but it'll be interesting to see if the margin has shifted somewhat.

But yeah, we live on 15 acres of forest overlooking 26-mile-long Lake Pend Oreille. Idyllic. Days are getting shorter, though. A lot shorter, lol.

Obviously not. Your vote is always part of the popular vote. True, the popular vote doesn't exactly "matter" in the final outcome, but at least it matters for "bragging rights." And it helps show how "unfair" the electoral college system is.

That. Also, I think, it's a worthy signaling mechanism. Folks like @Ahlevah and myself would have been eminently "gettable" votes for a GOP that wasn't led by (and being molded into the image of) an insane and dangerous moron.

I voted 3rd Party for POTUS and Governor, and generally GOP down ticket. My hope is that there are others like me; natural conservatives who would vote for a conservative major party... if one chose to give us the option to do so, and that we show up in the analysis afterwards.

We cost Trump the election last time. You'd have thought the GOP would have been smart enough to figure out they should adjust accordingly.... but their media is too dedicated to only telling them what they want to hear :(

And it helps show how "unfair" the electoral college system is.

I do not think the EC is inherently unfair (I think it forces Presidential candidates to appeal to a broader coalition of Americans, rather than running up the numbers in their base), but, that may be a topic for a dedicated thread :)

The thing about logic is you only need an ability to think and reason to support a claim. You should try it! 👋
You should try supporting your statement with a poll.

Doesnt say that in the article you posted.
Would you like to try again?

It does - it was simply long enough ago that Biden was still at the top of the ticket.

Here is the map as it stands. The dark colored states are the safe ones, where the candidate who will win is - absent Act Of God or Nuclear War that somehow ends the election - already generally known, because that's the overwhelming preference of the citizens in that state.

This is a particularly poor defense attempt you have chosen, in your attempt to ignore the point that we do not vote for who we think is most likely to win our state, but for who we support politically and are willing to vote for conscientiously. The purpose of voting is to register my will, not try to identify which team is most likely to win so I can scurry over to it.

But, if you like, I am willing to wager a $1,000 donation to DP on the side that Trump will win Mississippi, and an additional $1,000 donation to DP on the side that Trump will win Alabama. I'm also willing to double down with a $1,000 bet on the side that Harris will win California, and a $1,000 bet that Harris will win New York.
