if by "protecting traditional morality" you mean racism, then yes, at least a lot of them against Jewish people, it appears.

the other 2 categories don;t matter. there are plenty of good things about states rights and opposing a large federal government that have nothing to do with that.

Actually, the Klan as I understand mostly moved to Republicans - the name "GOP" really doesn't fit - after 1964.

The idea of "liberal" as we understand it today doesn't really apply to the politics of the time. Those politics were driven by race policies and rights of southerners. The original KKK actually dissolved when reconstruction ended, reportedly, and a new second KKK was formed in 1915 after "Birth of a Nation" created interest, per the post I linked above.
