I said what? As I stared at the sign on the door of my local library.

I have to admit I was a bit stunned, the sign read, not accepting donations. I had one thought run through my head, why would a library not accept donated books? All I could come up with is Flori-duh.

My first guess would be space limitations. Not being able to hold regular book fairs these last few years has probably created a surplus that’s eating up space that can be used more effectively. Many libraries ended the voluntary programs over Covid and the man power dries up to sort the donated material. Or maybe they just were throwing away too many donations and it was cut. My local library stopped taking donated books years ago because they were to understaffed and the donations collected dust until they found a dumpster or thrift store as a new home

Libraries don’t want nasty, out of date, low circulation books. So if that’s typically what they received in that area then they’ll just end it.

You know this, how?

You didn't stop in and ask? Why not?

I worked in a library. And for you that should just be common sense. Why would a library want a beat up old book that nobody wants to check out?
My common sense, along with decades of experience utilizing and donating to local libraries where I have lived, tells me that anyone even slightly familiar with public library standards wouldn’t donate “nasty” books (assuming that you’re referring to books in poor condition), and they would know that books don’t go out of date.

Maybe the Dems/Libs were dropping off too much inappropriate reading material, so they had to shut the whole operation down.

All those books on science and the history of slavery. Can't have that in libraries.

Republicans don't want people to learn about science and slavery. Its on the banned list.
They'd rather teach that the Earth is 6000 yrs old and cavemen rode on dinosaurs.

None of the books I was going to donate were beat up and several were best sellers.

Oh No...that would be far too progressive for today's Repuke. They want to teach Adam and Eve and the Apple and the serpent and the immaculate Conception. Now that is "REAL" History!!!! ...........NOT!!!!

Sounds like hate and projection to me.

I did multiple searches online and found nothing to back up your claim. Do you have a link?

Oddly enough, sounds like truth to me.

Facts matter more than feelings. Just FYI.

Where are the books about the planet being 6,000 yrs old and cavemen riding dinosaurs?

Our local library stopped donations during Covid and hasn’t started them back again.

Prior to Covid, they were particular about what books they would accept - you would take them there during certain hours and they’d go through and see what they could accept.

People in our town have built “leave a book, take a book” mini-libraries in yards. They’re especially full of paperbacks and children’s books.

This type:

Could be anything. From simple space and conditions, to restrictions from the State, to whatever else.

Did anyone inside explain the policy?

Evidences of a Young Earth

The earth is only a few thousand years old. That’s a fact, plainly revealed in God’s Word. So we should expect to find plenty of evidence for its youth. And that’s what we find in the earth’s geology, biology, paleontology, and even astronomy.

So it only goes to follow that if the earth is only six thousand years old, cavemen and dinosaurs didn't exist.

I see now how you got your moniker.

It was after five, my library was closed. There is a drop box in the parking lot that had the same sign on it, I figured the box was full so I thought I'll drop them off at the door, same sign. I thought WTF, libraries declining books?

I suggest, if you are curious enough, calling the library during operating hours to inquire as to why they can't or won't accept book donations at this time?

Seems the donation policies across Florida for libraries are anything but uniform with some wide open while others are closed and a gamut of in between.

It does appear some libraries were Pandemic struck and had to curtail accepting donations due to Covid related staffing shortages. Others cite donation restrictions due to cost or lack of storage capacity. While some appeared put off by folks placing caveats on their donated collections?

As it is I think speculation can continue but a phone call as I suggested would be quite informative.
