So I live in a strictly residential neighborhood made up of single family residences with an elementary school on its perimeter.

We have sidewalks along every side street and the main roads have sidewalks on each side. This is a neighborhood made up of young couples just starting out, or older folks winding things down.

I have a corner lot that on one side has the main road (25 mph, 25 ft wide) and on the other side a feeder road (25 mph, 18 ft wide) that I keep up pretty nicely.
I have had neighbors come up and ask me for advice on keeping the lawn up and what sort of plants work best. I love horticulture and enjoy conversing about it.

So, now that I have set up the stage...here is what happened this evening.
I host a "Cheap Wine Night" when the weather is right. We sit out on my front lawn (faces east so the sun does not melt you) and we visit.

So tonight we were doing this and someone comes screaming down the main road on the side of my house in a go cart.
This vehicle is running a Rotax engine with minimal mufflers at 75% or better throttle. He makes three passes and then is joined by it looks like his son, similar set up at increased velocity. The son is cutting donuts in the middle of the street.

We witness families walking with their kids quickly corralling their children and trying to determine what to do.

After four passes like this I get perturbed. I keep an ear out as I can tell what other streets they are racing up and down and can determine when they have hit this main road next to my house.
Soon I hear the whine of two engines running side by side coming down the road next to me.

I set my wine glass out and jog out into the middle of the road and face towards where they are coming from. From 150 feet out I can see them headed toward me.
I signal with my hands in that they are to shut it down. The older guy (I'm guessing the daddy) shuts it down but the younger (the son I assume) scoots on by me.

He asks me whats up?

I reply four times is enough.....
He says they have only been going 25 mph....(pure bull shit, they have been sprinting to enjoy the acceleration on this street and have easily been doing 40+) I

I yell back "I don't care.....your motors are well beyond noise limits and next time I'm calling the cops"

I go back to my front yard and sit with the neighbors and we enjoy the evening. Off in the distance I can hear their engines going up and down the streets but they stay our of our neck of the woods.

You should have called the police anyway. Sure...they aren't bothering you anymore, but they are still bothering people.

btw, I don't know about your neck of the woods, but in my area go-carts, atv's, dirt bikes...anything that is unlicensed...are forbidden to use the roads.

I joined that club about a month ago. I live at the intersection of two stop signs so if I'm backing out of my driveway and someone doesn't stop at the either stop sign I could get hit. We also have cats in our neighborhood that actually belong to someone but spend part of their time outside. A while back, a young lady that was probably home from college for Spring Break came flying down the street and through the stop sign. I jumped in my car and followed her to where she stopped. She was still sitting in the car on her phone. I rolled down my window and told her to slow down and stop at the damn stop sign.

Yeah...and an hour and a half later when the show up for the non emergency call I tell the police what? They have long since shut it down.
...and of course these go-karts were not street legal but if you want to stop the problem now.....you put on your big boy underroos.......

Would you be mine? Could you be mine? Won't you be my neighbor?

GTF off my lawn.....

...and what sort of wine are you bringing next week?.......
You name it. But I've been in a rose and prosecco frame of mind, if you're interested.:giggle:

I had some kids riding some kind of buggy down my alley. I was out back enjoying the quiet of the pool, they kicked up a lot of dust and noise. They did it a few times.

I turned on the hose, stood on a table and was ready for their next visit.

Then I called the cops. It was hot out, by the time the cops came, they would be dry and I would have plausible deniability.

You are new to the grumpy old man club, and clearly have a lot to learn.

My philosophy is: Don't get mad, get even.

In my opinion, your biggest mistake was 'showing your hand' when you shouldn't have. Think of it this way: this asshole with the loud go carts already knew he was being an asshole, and he didn't care. Do you really think you are going to reason with somebody like that? All you did was let him know who to come after if you have to take this to the next level--- even if that is calling the police.

I always try to "encourage" better behavior other ways. And even if some "dirty tricks" are in order, which may not alter his behavior. At least I can have the satisfaction of getting even, and then I don't need to feel mad about it.;)

Yea......

In after thought I should have invited him up on the lawn for a glass of "Annie Green Springs of the Week"..... might have made a new friend..

We could have discussed compression ratios, valve overlap and pros and cons of hemispherical vs. wedge head designs. In the FoMoCo vs. Chevy v. MoPar, I am in the FoMoCo camp.

But to be honest....

He and his kid were just going way too fast........and way too loud....in a street full of parents pushing the babies in prams...... for them not to get their feathers clipped.

There is a time.....and a place....for most everything under the sun...

My neighborhood was not the place for open throttle racing with kids present.
