Storming the Capitol is unconscionable!

It is one thing to protest peacefully, regardless of one's lean, views, biases, whatever. That is guaranteed by the First Amendment.

It is another thing to act out in destructive foolish violence. It was not right when the Left was doing it over the last several years, and it isn't when the Right does it as seen today in Washington!

I will always support peaceful actions to agree, disagree, debate, petition, vote, campaign, march, or otherwise show opposition.

But I will not tolerate mob violence from any side. Nor should anyone else. The instigators and participants have achieved NOTHING except to damage whatever they thought they were trying to say, prove, or show support for.

I condemn this with all my heart and mind.

Did you express the same sentiment about all of your President's inflammatory rhetoric to "fight" the election results, "liberate" locations with policies he doesn't like, refusing to commit to a peaceful transfer of power, proposing military involvement to swing the election in his favour and encouraging violent far-right groups to "stand back and stand by"?

Is it that you don't understand the American ideal of "free speech/freedom of expression;" not having such a guarantee in your own Australian "Constitution?"

I'm happy to assume that people who are not defending (or deflecting by saying that agitators/antifa/blm did it) condemn it. We don't really need to do this "everyone condemn or be guilty" thing every time a bad thing happens.

This is a true stain on American democracy. It had its faults - oh, so many - but I'm not sure when the last time the Capitol building was stormed. Was it the 1812 war? I feel like it happened one time, under drastically different circumstances.


We should be thankful that the seditionists were so unorganized and unfocused. Imagine what a band of trained and prepared seditionists might do. I'm more than a little surprised that there weren't proper contingency procedures in place. Yes, there were thousands. But unarmed thousands (mostly?), no explosives, etc. What about a determined attack? They need to beef up security.

That's the seat of one branch of government. It's kind of a big deal.

The guy said that photos and videos of police slashing tires were not "evidence" of police slashing tires, in order to defend Trump-lead anti-BLM tactics, only changing his tune when the department in question admitted to slashing tires.

So you support Donald Trump's longstanding inflammatory rhetoric which - as virtually every reasonable commentator predicted - incited these acts of violence? And his ongoing failure to even pretend at condemning the actions of those "great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long"?
 
What about what happened just before the Capitol riot? Do you condemn Trump's incitement of the crowd?

Since I have yet to find any comment by Trump in your citation, or elsewhere, "inciting the mob to violence," there is nothing to condemn. He has a right to make a speech expressing his opinion.

HOWEVER, I do support calls for Trump to go down to the Capitol and defuse and disperse the crowd. He should NOT "revel" in this. I do not support this action at all.

I said Trump's words incited the crowd to go to the Capitol. Do you agree or disagree?
 
Yep. And, it's worse when we realize both houses were in session doing the Nation's work, ratifying a legal election certified by all 50 states, when these animals attacked us.

For 4 years anyone paying attention could see what Trump's rhetoric and throwing meat to his base was leading up to..

The last 2 months was hit over your head obvious what was going to happen. Even some Republicans and their families were being threatened because of Trump's rhetoric and lies..

But now his cult and the Republican cowards in Congress are surprised? The enablers are now shocked?.. Lol

Too late.. This is All on the GOP cowards and the Trump cult who looked the other way for 4 years.. If somebody, anybody held him accountable for his lies, his threats, and his 'the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat' tweets we wouldn't now be a 3rd world country..
 
Thank you. Just like those in portland or other places who would engage in harm to person or property in airing their grievances. This is not how this country works!

There is a way to air our various political disagreements or points of view, but not through physical confrontation.
 
Of course a reasonable investigation into the large number of claims of fraud, of changing election laws without authorization, of using tax dollars to solicit votes, of failure to adhere to election requirements, and over voting, could have answered the questions and prevented all these problems. Usually answering questions is the way to clear things up, refusing to answer questions is usually a sure sign something is amiss.
 

You condemn the mob but not its leader.

You were repeatedly warned that Trump's words would incite violence. A woman is dead. Our capitol desecrated. You need to condemn the man who instigated the violence with his stubborn refusal to accept the results of an election.

Most importantly we learned today that the Capitol Building is not safe for having a meeting of government leaders.

If the crowd were armed and wanted to they could easily picked off the whole group of congressional members along with the vice president.

Next I expect copy cats to attempt this with more deadly goals.
 
Absolutely, but while people like you and me equally condemn such acts of violence, destruction and rioting, the Democrat and their fellow travelers are not so morally equivalent.
They stood by and said NOTHING to quell the almost daily riots, burning, looting and murdering which terrorized America for 9 months.
But what you see now is Republicans condemning today's mass rioting unequivocally. Not a one of them said, "People do what people do", or called the Trump-supporting mob an "idea".
That is the difference between them, and us.
 
The difference is we get shit done. You couldn't stop Congress from coming back and certifying Joe Biden as President the same day.

In fact you made it harder for Republican congressmen to push Trumps ridiculous conspiracy theories. Good job.

Round them up, force resignations and forbid them from any elected office in the USA forever.
