imho The answer to that question is ~ yes for multiple people.
Excellent points! Thank You.What are you on about? Provide some facts, direct links. Don't presume we all know what you are talking about.
Let me hazard a guess though... Perhaps factual information showing that slaves were expected to be useful to their then masters? That they were taught methods of farming, smithing/iron working, construction skills, animal husbandry, furniture construction, wood working, and so on?
Are you arguing that these "skills" were not marketable when slavery was abolished? That those freed who may have been given land to farm already had the hard experience to make it work? Those who sought work in construction, or in jobs making clothes and other sundries were able to do so easily?
The people at the local level will be in charge.
The idea of the Dept. of Education was to create some basic standards nationwide. You know, like reading levels per age group, understanding of mathematics per age group, basic science knowledge per age group. etc. Try to develop standardized testing to provide base lines of area knowledge.
It was not created to fund teachers' unions, or push DEI, ESG, or any other racial, sexual, self-identity bull crap.
Since it has not been doing its job, why keep it around?
I am struggling with the idea that MAGA Republicans would even consider "all kids" receiving "a good education," might be a better statement to say MAGA Republicans are interested in *some or the right kids" receiving a good education.
Just that slight change explains why MAGA Republicans tend to target The US Department of Education, various State Education agencies and teacher's unions, promote education voucher systems, etc. That is all designed to ensure only certain kids obtain an education and everyone else has to make due with less resources.
Now I will stipulate that The US Department of Education and even teacher's unions are doing a terrible job of influencing how our kids are educated, just a casual observance of how the US ranks against like nations in reading comprehension, math, and science suggests between the lot of Democratic and Republican influences over the years all we've done is lower the bar, hand our participation trophies, and crank out future generations of uneducated, entitled, narcissistic idiots.
Local educational standards are pretty much local: state, county, school. Parents by and large are not often involved in their chidlren's education unless there is a trendy hot button issue.
The MAGA federal position is religion based with racist undertones. Start there.
Unless I’m missing something, where are we not in agreement? (I’m legit asking, not baiting.)
He has some very experienced & knowledgeable people so hopefully, closing down the federal education department will go smoothly. States already have their own education departments. I don't know how the Constitution works, but is there perhaps a way that he could "incentivize" the States to clean up their departments to get rid of the DEI & CRT bull crap? This seems like a hammer to crack a nut. Trump has installed a wrestling lady to close down the dept of education and presumably transfer its undertakings to the various states.
Will the states be ready to assume control.?
Education in many states seems to be in the hands of ideological lunatics. How will the interests of the children be safeguarded ? In particular the poorer children.
How will a qualification awarded by Florida, for example, be rated by employers alomgside a qualification issued by a normal state ? It all seems very problematic.

The problem is that a lot of kids in red states are being robbed of chances in life. So, gave this some thought...and...fine...hand it to the states. Here's why...
Let the red states lower their quality of education by lowering standards. Let them shut down universities for being "woke". Let them make the students learn about God and little else. Let red states churn out followers and servants to those more successful than they.
Let the blue states have strong education programs, especially in the sciences and mathematics. Let the blue states pump out better educated Americans who will be in control of the nation's technology. Let the blue states churn out business leaders. Let the blue states churn out Americans who will lead and tell the red state Americans of the future what to do.
Wouldn't it be funny if suddenly the red state Americans found themselves in the service of a rich, transgender business leader?
It won’t play out that cleanly. So, gave this some thought...and...fine...hand it to the states. Here's why...

They need to be an underclass to feed their sense of grievance. MAGA!!It won’t play out that cleanly.
How it will play out is that the kids of the educated and wealthy individuals will get the good education and go on to be wealthy. Their family tree will continue to grow in wealth and power…
And the kids of poorer people will get lesser education and continue to be poor. And struggle. Down the lineage.
We have tried to equalize that playing field, butperhaps we can’t.
The whole point of the plan is to dumb down the citizenry. They want to return control of our nation's schools to the states? Without federal intervention, I'm not sure that Little Rock schools would be desegregated yet...This seems like a hammer to crack a nut. Trump has installed a wrestling lady to close down the dept of education and presumably transfer its undertakings to the various states.

Your hypothetical is exactly the opposite of what is reality in my humble opinion. So, gave this some thought...and...fine...hand it to the states. Here's why...

As to the comment I bolded? They already are. It's called the NEA and AFT.How will the maga war on education ensure that all kids get access to a good education ?
First of all, MAGA isn't at war wiith education. It's at war with the "Department" of Education. In other words, it seeks to remove the unconstitutional control the federal government has over education.
Regarding your fears of states being in the hands of ideological lunatics, that's a state issue that needs to be dealt with by each state's citizens. shrug... Some states will always be controlled by the liberals unless the citizens decide to make a change.
Qualifications? Well, that has always been something that employers have had to deal with. That's why degrees from some universities are deemed more valuable than degrees from other universities. Nothing will change in that respect.
And finally, "access to a good education". We don't need a federal department to ensure that all children have access to an education. Congress is always free to pass a law that ensures that. If states violate that law by preventing people from having access to an education, it gets settled in the justice system.
How will the maga war on
educationbrain washing ensure that all kids get access toagoodeducationindoctrination?
Which is why Trump's ideas are so popular. Republicans & those who support them want their kids to actually be EDUCATED. You know, math, science, languages/English, social studies et al. So Helix's comment is exactly right. The Regressives want kids to be sexualized, puberty issues are called "trans" issues when its nothing of the kind, DEI is more important than learning the ABC's, CRT is more important than the ABC's etc.Regressives don't want kids to get a proper education.

I use them among many news sources because I'm looking for facts, not propaganda and/or opinions that is spewed by the CNN's, MSNBC's et al.Weak. Turn off the faux.

Well, yes. Mississippi, for example, will never be able to support a school system in the same manner that Massachusetts would.Ah, the classic scare tactic—without the benevolent hand of the federal government, education will collapse, and some states will suffer!
Ah, the smug elitism of the enlightened statist—because nothing says “champion of education” like sneering at entire populations as “flyover hayseeds.” This is the kind of attitude that underpins every disastrous federal intervention: the belief that a handful of bureaucrats and self-proclaimed intellectuals know what’s best for millions of people they’ve never met.Well, yes. Mississippi, for example, will never be able to support a school system in the same manner that Massachusetts would.
But I'm okay with that. It's not like the flyover hayseeds use their education.
