This seems like a hammer to crack a nut. Trump has installed a wrestling lady to close down the dept of education and presumably transfer its undertakings to the various states.
Will the states be ready to assume control.?

Education in many states seems to be in the hands of ideological lunatics. How will the interests of the children be safeguarded ? In particular the poorer children.

How will a qualification awarded by Florida, for example, be rated by employers alomgside a qualification issued by a normal state ? It all seems very problematic.

The states are in control now, but receive “free” federal funding.

Are you assuming that “poorer children” are getting an adequate eduction now?

Hmm… I suppose that depends on how education is ranked and by who.

Florida ranks #1 while California ranks #23 among the states in education.

Florida ranks #11 while California ranks #34 among the states in education.

Florida ranks #42 while California ranks #40 among the states in education.

Yet, what we were doing was clearly failling. So...

It won't. It can't, just like you can't lower prices with tariffs and mass deportations.

It's a "principled" stand. They have no idea what the consequences would be, and then they'll act surprised by them.

If there is a war on education, the teachers union are the ones that have waged it. They are more interested in themselves than they are in the education of their students. The Covid nonsense exposed it for everyday working parents to see firsthand.

The standards and protocols they put in place are designed to protect their jobs and indoctrinate our children.

The DOE has been an abysmal failure and I will celebrate it's closure.

My understanding is the States pretty much control education now. The Federal government is involved more in non State run universities, student loans and grants.

In theory the State should be in charge of education the problem can be the priority it is given relative to funding and curriculum within a State. The funding model in the States is terrible in my view. It is designed in such a way as to generally ensure more affluent children have good schools and teachers while poorer children suffer from inadequate facilities and resources.

I have no idea what the plans are, but it cannot be any worse that what we have now. Our education system has been failing our kids. It has been going dowhill ever since the formation of the Department of Indoctrination. I mean Education.

That remains to be seen. The only thing worse than giving “free” federal money to the states is doing so with no strings (conditions and oversight?) attached.

That (bolded above) was either in 1953 (formation of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare) or in 1979 (formation of the Department of Education).

For starters, to characterize Trump education policy as a "war on education", is dishonest and deceptive. Secondly, the current system certainly doesn't guarantee access to a good education, far from it. So, why would you be against trying to improve our public education system, and why do libs fight against allowing kids access to better schools?

What exactly does the DoE do in terms of public education at a State level? My understanding is very, very little. The don't provide funding at a significant level, they don't set curriculums. They do oversee Constitutional issues like freedom of speech and human rights and they do some stuff like Head Start but they really aren't that involved. Their focus is almost all on universities and colleges. What am I missing?

How will it improve ? Kids from Florida are taught fake history that would only be accepable in a Florida University.
Teaching that slavery id good for you and banning books is not a rounded education.

The people who have these crazzy ideas will be in charge.

That’s always been the case and always will be.

The dept of education didn’t set curriculum.

American education has a history od racist funding.States rights are unlikely to improve that. States Rights are shorthand for racism.

Where is education included (listed, enumerated or defined?) as being a federal government power in our Constitution?
It isn’t.

Education is a state issue. Always has been. Hence why public education is included in every state constitution.

The federal dept of education provided additional funding to help states abide federal laws, such as IDEA and help make sure there was funding for schools and students where states fell short. At a K-12 and collegiate level.

But 🤷‍♀️ let them figure it out themselves.

They’ll either get it right or they’ll get sued and have to come up with money to resolve lawsuits.

The Federal DOE does not do any educating, that is all done through each individual State DOE. The Fed DOE exists to collect money and nothing else. It is an agency that has done nothing to improve education and has long since run its course.

Why is it an article of faith to people who generally have little education.?

That doesnt appear to be the case at all. It seems an important tole in protecting young Americans from the excesses of provincial bullies.
Oklahoma are making kids pray for Trump. Whatever next ?

Lawsuits can and will continue even without the Dept of Education.

Utah is #2 in education?

LMMFAO. No they aren't.

That (bolded above) appears to be a federal reward for a state’s failure.

It will always be a federal responsibility to ensure civil and human rights but that is best left to the DoJ for instance.
