No, that again isn't accurate. There is no intelligence goal to their mutation. A virus simply mutates because an
error occurs in replicating itself. The mutation has
effects on the virus community
as a consequence.
Here's an article that states this:
What Happens If COVID-19 Mutates?
They do not "mutate to become less virulent".
They simply mutate due to errors in replication which simply does frequently occur with viruses by their nature.
Whether a new mutant is more or less virulent is something
we humans assess.
Again, no. You ascribe too much intelligence to the virus and its mutation.
If a strong immune system defeats the virus .. it's simply defeated.
It won't "know" it needs to be "stronger" prior to being defeated, as if it could predict the future, and thus consciously "mutate" to become more resilient "and quickly spread to another before it dies".
Which is our observation, not the virus's intent.
Younger people don't have a stronger immune system, per se, even if older people might have a weakened one if they're already fending off something age-related.
Younger people have a younger more sturdy
endothelium, the lining of vessels, the lymphatic system, etc. The endothelium is the first line of defense with the invading virus. A strong endothelium can hold the virus at bay while the average immune system attacks and defeats it with little affect on the person.
Older people's endothelium has been ravaged by age and is much weaker, and that's why older people more often have such severe cases of COVID-19.
Again, the virus does not mutate "to" become stronger "to combat a strong immune system. Thus a strong immune system's only affect on the virus is to cause the patient to succumb from inflammation in the lungs should a very large viral load be contracted that overwhelms the endothelium, invades the lungs, and the inflammation causes fluid to flood the lungs .. and the patient drowns.
In battling COVID-19, it is much preferable to have merely an average immune system. A really strong immune system can actually be a liability, and is how a very tiny percentage of kids can succumb to COVID-19.
Better is to have merely an average immune system .. and a very strong endothelium.
