Have the House pass all of the bills with sufficient votes to over ride a veto and without the wall but with 7 billion in additional funding for border security. Then McConnell allows a vote on the bills and insure that there are sufficient number of GOP votes to over ride a veto. The Senate GOPers who would vote for the bills would be those with a great number of government workers in their districts that could give them cover for their votes. Trump could allow the bills to lay on his desk for the days needed for them to become law without his signature. The government would open and the Dems could claim they did not give in to the wall. Trump could claim he did not give in to the Dems and that the Legislative branch forced his hand and he would somehow get the wall built in the future. All of the legislators could go back to their districts and say they have helped secure our borders by the huge increase in funding for that purpose. No one would lose and the American people would be back in business.

**** him! At some point one needs to pick the hill that they want to die on. If you want the dog to stop crapping in the house, you have to draw a line and by God you better have some spine........or get used to cleaning up the crap for the life of the dog.....

The best interests of the nation must come before Trump hate.

2.5 for wall from the Dems. No screwing with DACA until 2020 from republicans
McConnell wouldn't allow that vote. One has to remember he is up for reelection in 2020 in a state where Trump approval rating is 55%. Trump's approval rating nationally is 42%. Going against Trump would pretty much guarantee McConnell is primaried out of office. Kentucky is an R plus 15 state. Meaning Kentucky is 15 points higher than the national average Republican. Going against Trump would be the death wish come true for McConnell.
In plain English, going against Trump ends McConnell's senate career.

This will end by Monday or Tuesday.
The House Dems cannot override a veto. Not even CLOSE.
So be "WE", you mean the ILLEGALOCRATS, not the American People.
And the R's are still too afraid of the voters to cross us on one of Trumps main campaign slogans.
I’m thinking you have an endless supply of “poop bags!”
President Obama Tells Donald Trump Not to Whine: Transcript | TimeIf you start whining before the game’s even over, if whenever things are going badly for you and you lose, you start blaming somebody else, then you don’t have what it takes to be in this job because there are a lot of times when things don’t go our way or my way.
That’s OK, you fight through it, you work through it, you try to accomplish your goals. But the larger point I want to emphasize here is that there is no serious person out there who would suggest somehow that you could even — you could even rig America’s elections, in part, because they are so decentralized and the numbers of votes involved.
There is no evidence that that has happened in the past or that there are instances in which that will happen this time.
Right.
Reward Trump for holding hundreds of thousands of Americans hostage. And what is it that we'll be getting in return? Some vague promise that Republicans will wait until 2020 to renew their assaults on innocent young people who know no other home but America? I'm not sure what it is that you're saying the Democrats will get out of giving Trump money that he promised he would never ask for.
What is there to stop Trump from pulling a trick like this again if Democrats roll over and get nothing in return?
Ok no wall and throw out the illegals it is then. I would prefer a compromise but if your not willing to so be it.
Personally I see the walk funding tied to keeping DACA in place for the remainder of the year. If Republicans go back on their word Democrats cut off the wall funding.
I would be happy to see no wall and DACA stopped as a compromise also.
Time for McConnell to remember that he is an American ... do what is right ... and then accept his comfortable retirement and statesman status.
He's 76. Ending his "career" shouldn't seem such a threat that he would be willing to prolong the suffering of hundreds of thousands of Americans, risk the national credit rating, hamstring the agencies which are supposed to be making sure the country is safe, etc.
This whole thing could have been avoided if a compromise was worked out prior to the shutdown. In fact congress is suppose to pass all 12 appropriation bills prior to the end of the fiscal year which ends on 30 Sep. Congress did pass 5 of the 12 and those five were signed into law prior to the end of the fiscal year.
McConnell is one of the most partisan folks around. But no less partisan then his counterparts. McConnell is only doing what the folks in Kentucky want him to do. What he was elected to do by them. The wall is closely split with 39% of Americans wanting it, for it while 46% oppose it. Question 18.

It's also a very partisan issue, 80% of Republicans are for it, 77% of Democrats oppose it. It would hard to find another issue where the partisan divide is a huge as that. Outside of Trump's job approval that is. 86% of republicans approve of the job Trump is doing, 84% of Democrats disapprove. Question 63. There's just no middle ground for either side to fall back on. One side feels Trump is doing what is right and good for America, the other side feels Trump is all wrong and putting America in danger. Again, no middle ground. The divide is too huge. At least for now.
Take a look at the people involved in this. Their favorable ratings by America as a whole. Nationwide. Trump at 39% favorable, Pence 37%, Pelosi 33%, Schumer 27%, McConnell 24%. Questions 59A through F. No love there for any of the current leaders in Washington. It's a simple case where Democrats love their leaders and detest Republican leaders while Republicans love their leaders at the same time detesting democratic party leaders. Independents don't like none of them.
Unless one side or the other, both sides get off their partisan high horses, we're stuck. Would you accept a compromise of 2.5 billion for the wall? That splitting the difference right down the middle. A 50-50 compromise? I would.
Whatever money Democrats offer for the wall, they need to get something from their wishlist in return.
They cannot send the signal that it's okay for Trump to hold hostage the paychecks of 800,000 people whenever he wants taxpayer money for a pet project. (Especially a project he promised he wouldn't ask taxpayers to fund.)
I'm fine with the whole wall being built ... provided enough things from Democrats' wishlist get taken care of also.
Give and take, that's the way it used to work. That's the way it is suppose to work. Right now both sides are refusing to give, both just want to take. We could work something out, but those in Washington...politics have gotten way too crazy. As has partisanship.
Give and take. Right.
But if Trump is the only one who gets anything, that's not give and take.
No incentive for him not to rape a million Americans again whenever he takes a fancy.
If Trump is going to take these billions (that he promised he would never ask for), then he needs to pony up and put something worthwhile on the table.
It takes two to tango.
Build the wall. The country wins.
