Because people DIE! Especially heartbreaking when they're children who die in their classroom. They die easily because some kid can hops on their bike to the neighborhood gun store and come out with assault weapons and ammunition fit for an army. This WILL happen again no matter what we do. But if we start NOW we can make it more difficult.... and probably save some lives.

And, as your (and everybody else's) LACK of arguments shows, there is NO reason why we shouldn't. And there is NO reason why it wouldn't work.

We're mostly talking about suicides that's a mental health issue.

Suicides are primarily a mental health issue. And I addressed that with my proposals about red flag laws and mental health. But the PRIMARY focus of this thread is assault weapons. I don't know how many people commit suicide with an assault weapon. But I DO know that they kill innocent people with them. So THAT is the main focus of my proposals.

And, more importantly, WHY would we want to do that when making it as difficult as humanly possible to obtain guns would be more effective?

Now, if vehicles were electro-mechanically prevented from going faster than 25 mph, and NASCAR safety equipment required for all occupants, fatalities could be virtually eliminated and there would be less injuries with many of those less severe.

If you want to see if a high blood pressure pill works to lower blood pressure , you don’t compare too people who are in great shape, eat right etc .
What you compare is a person who has high high blood pressure , is overweight , smokes etc
And someone with good blood pressure who is healthy .

If the blood pressure pill is effective then the blood pressure should decrease to the level of the healthy person .

If gun control worked really well, it would overcome the other issues causing crime , just like a high blood pressure pill lowers blood pressure despite the patients obesity. The

And, as the OP explains, they won't eliminate ALL gun violence... not even all gun violence with assault weapons... but it will surely make them more difficult than just hopping by the neighborhood gun store, and walking out with an assault weapon and high capacity magazines.. And since some people have pointed out that anything you can do with an assault weapon, you can do just as well with a knife, a rope or... even "a brick or a tire iron", then we have nothing to lose. Just use those.
