How should Americans celebrate Juneteenth?

Yes, that's why we're in this mess. We refuse to take responsibility for our mistakes. We elected a racist president. Twice. We keep thinking we're the greatest country in the world. We want to turn a blind eye to our wrongs and believe a pipe dream of a fantasy past..
I don't know who you think WE is.
You want to think Trump is a racist and yet he garnered a large number of votes from black and Hispanic voters.
To what are we turning a blind eye? To your complaints of GOP dominance and the failure of your candidate last November?

You have come to the right place to have your shallow criticisms noted by your ilk in a popular echo chamber.

My vote is moment of silence and picnic / BBQ. We should be celebrating the end of slavery and at the same time, honoring those fought the tough battles.
If you wish to celebrate the end of slavery, which occurred over 150 years ago, while eating barbecued foods and drinking beer, then that is certainly your choice.
Hope you enjoyed it.

By pretending to celebrate.

(What else should one do for a pretend holiday?)
I see you have elected to take some time out of your day to announce that you don't believe that blacks are Americans or even real people.

I don't know who you think WE is.
Citizens of the United States of America.
You want to think Trump is a racist and yet he garnered a large number of votes from black and Hispanic voters.
People vote against their best interests all the time. It proves nothing other than that they're ignorant.

To America's past and present mistakes.
You have come to the right place to have your shallow criticisms noted by your ilk in a popular echo chamber.
Thanks! And like I always say, patriots never call themselves patriots. It's not necessary.

I learn about bad things all the time given the 20th century had the most terrible conflicts the world has ever seen.
I pick and choose what I want to learn about.
I don't need to be told what is important to learn about.
All history is important to learn about. But I understand, some people just can’t handle the truth 😉

Took me by surprise
Yea vote from Marge. I double checked to make sure I got the right Greene
MTG doesn't really have any principles. I believe she's playing dumb on purpose and simply goes along with the establishment Republican base. Back in 2021, as seen in the vote tallies, this legislation was backed universally. We're talking 93%-100% approval. "Both sides" thought it was an important holiday. But unfortunately, 2-3 years later, diversity initiatives became a negative. J19 is now seen as "just for the blacks day". It doesn't surprise me that many MAGA folks now deride the Holiday.

I see you have elected to take some time out of your day to announce that you don't believe that blacks are Americans or even real people.
And here -- once again in this thread -- we see how this day is celebrated and thus its purpose.

The left will assume any and all disagreement over a race-related matter must be born of racism for one simple reason: it's what they want.

That's nice.
I still do not understand why you think it's a left-wing and Biden pandering Holiday. As noted before, the legislation received 93%-100% support back in 2021 and Texans have been celebrating the Holiday since the late 19th century.

Happy Juneteenth everybody! I hope everyone is enjoying their day off or double pay day.

Juneteenth is a new federal holiday. How do you think Americans should be celebrating it?

The Options:

Picnic / BBQ - You celebrate it, just like the 4th of July or Memorial Day.
Go to Mass / Religious Service / Engage in prayer - You thank God for that America ended slavery and black people received full citizenship rights.
Watch a Documentary / TV Show / Film / Play about the Civil War - Celebrate the day by watching or reading something about the Civil War or Slavery.
Community Service - Volunteer at the local food shelter or soup kitchen.
Watch a movie / Documentary / TV Show / Play with mostly a black cast and crew - Doesn't have to be about the Civil War or Slavery. Honor black cinema.
Give a black person a high five - If you see a black people on the street give them a hug / high five and tell them to have a wonderful day.
A Moment of Silence - Before you eat your food, you give a moment to honor the person who were impacted by the American Civil War and Slavery.
Complain about the day - Do nothing and simply call it a Woke or DEI Day.
Do nothing - Treat like any other day.
I don’t know. Probably let everyone celebrate in whatever way they see fit in their own personal way. I did nothing, but I do nothing on all the other holidays as far as celebrating them. Although on Christmas and Thanksgiving, sometimes one of my daughters invites me over for dinner. I guess that would be me celebrating them. I can’t remember the last time I did anything special on any holiday other than going over to dinner. So, just let everyone celebrate it in anyway them deem appropriate.

You're making a fair point, and I shouldn't pin it all on Biden. My larger point stands, however, it's a holiday born of politics and not of culture. That the majority of the people in this thread (and the country as a whole) don't even know what's customary for celebrating the day in a strong indication this day is manufactured.

It is a political holiday. I agree — end of slavery and an acknowledgement of black progression. I fail to see the issue.

Christmas doesn’t mean anything to lots of Americans.

I support that too - don't celebrate if you don't want to although the 4th is one I'd argue every American should because its why we're here as a country

@MAGAnificent declared earlier in the thread that the 4th of July is when all Americans became free. However, this is a dubious claim as several of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence literally owned other humans as property at the time. One could understand how descendants of the slaves may not celebrate the day when some Americans declared freedom while denying it to others.

I don't care what the claim

the 4th is a celebration of when the USA because the nation we have today - if you hate it? you're kinda hating our nation today. Like it or not, every black person in the USA today benefits from our country becoming a country

Not sure why you’ve introduced hatred into the discussion. One may simply not celebrate the 4th of July or Christmas as I mentioned earlier. Similar to the way you don’t celebrate Juneteenth.

if Trump doesn't celebrate Juneteenth Day - do liberals think he's hating ? honest question

I'd say Trump pandered Juneteenth more. He celebrated it when it was convenient but now that he doesn't need votes, he doesn't pander this Holiday.

President Donald Trump honored Juneteenth in each of his first four years as president, even before it became a federal holiday. He even claimed once to have made it “very famous.”

But on this year’s Juneteenth holiday on Thursday, the usually talkative president kept silent about a day important to Black Americans for marking the end of slavery in the country he leads again.

Not a "liberal" but yes, because he used to celebrate it - hell he even claimed personally to have made it famous.

So what do you think changed, other than he was just pandering before and is being hater now?

Did he not celebrate it? A president should acknowledge all federal holidays, even if he didn’t personally host a bbq or whatever. Of course, Trump’s sense of occasion leaves a lot to be desired.

Lol come on! He just posted a bitchfest on truth social about too many federal holidays.

It's not good optics to think that 8 paid Holidays is too much. Many Americans feel they work too much, and get little in return. But yes, Trump indeed did a 180 on Juneteenth. He took credit for the legislation passage, and now feels it's a bogus Holiday. Diversity is now a dirty word in the MAGA universe.

Watching white dudes get all pissed off about Juneteenth might be the easiest way ever to identify white supremacists / racists.

🤣🤣🤣🤣
