It came up in the "How many guns" thread, that it is more important to keep enough ammo for whatever guns you do own.

I confess I'm not a great ammo hoarder. I've threatened to be in the past. I always figured I should buy a brick of .22LR anytime I find myself somewhere that sells it. I wish I had been doing that back when Walmart, Rural King, etc. sold it as loss leaders for under $10 a brick.

Anyway, I've got 2 flats of 12 gauge shells plus a few loose boxes. So, 500+ 12 gauge. Have about 300 rounds of .45 ACP. About the same of 9mm. 170 rounds of .30 carbine. 300 rounds of .223. 2000+ rounds of .22LR. All approximate because of loose rounds, partial boxes, and loaded magazines.

I shoot very little these days, and if I do, I replace what I shoot plus a little more. Like if I would go out and put 20 or 30 through one of my .45s, I would replace that with an entire box next time at the store.

It does not matter how much ammo one hoards... it takes only one "round" properly placed, to shut such a person down.
  • it also takes only one stragetically placed round to the hand, to make the ammo and weapon useless to an individual.

Ever since covid, minimum of 1,000-2,000 rounds. I'm not going to pay more than $20 a box for practice ammo. And continue to go to the range on a regular basis during ammo shortages.

I generally try to keep about 5k on hand by caliber; the exception being 22L.....I keep about 15 k on simply because my daughter burns through so much target shooting, and 5.56, because I burn through a lot doing the same.

I will pick up a brick of 10mm or 9mm whenever I see it on the shelves, and I have not let my 7.62 fall beneath 7K.

Pretty sure the OP was not asking how many people he shoots on a regular basis.

I'm just a damn underachiever.

The comment was not about how many people he shoots, its about one round shutting down the individual, who is the shooter who has a stock pile of ammo.

I didn't know John Wick was among us. :)

They gotta get through a hail of lead to get in that strategically placed round eh?

Good for you!
Never let an opportunity to clutch your pearls over the Second Amendment go to waste.;)

I stocked up on the calibers I need in May/June 2020 just as a lot was becoming scarce.

Baby Girl Bum and I will spend a weekend target shooting in nicer weather, and that can add up to several thousand rounds over two days

As much as can fit in the safe.

Don’t let myself go below around 500 rounds per caliber. Don’t have a top end limit.

I picked up 40,000 primers before the panic hit. now I have plenty of 9mm, 45, and 38 short colt. 22-at least a dozen cases
Nice. I though about getting into loading myself but decided I didn’t want to spend that much to get into it, and by the time I looked into it primers and other components were hard to get.

I keep 2 magazines handy, just as much as i would need for emergencies.

hmmm never really thought about it . . .

I have around 250 rounds of carry

and another 400 of target i guess

i dont really make any effort to keep on hand though, at least number wise . . .
i typically replenish at 2 boxes but it varies

This depends on what type of ammo and what gun you are using. There is a reason for 3 round burst fire and the measurement of stopping power. A bullet that tears a hole clean through is not going to incapacitate as much as a bullet that punches.

I was never one to stockpile ammo so i dont really keep much.

The 3 round burst feature wasn't intended to put more rounds on target, but to increase the odds of getting one round on target.

Not a answer to the question. Just babble!
