I lack confidence the requirements needed to be declared a Covid death are defined. They appear way to ambiguous

You shouldn't.

Here is a chart of excess deaths for the last few years. ("Excess" meaning "above the average since 2013.") That little blip in 2018 was the result of the worst year for flu since 2009. SOMETHING clearly killed over 500,000 more Americans than in a normal year. How do you explain it...?

So, you would have been just fine with 2 million plus Americans dying in 2020 alone? Good to know.

Oh, and if Americans had been more compliant with masks and social distancing and other measures, we'd be in much better shape right now. E.g. Australia did the right thing, and they are significantly closer to normal than anywhere in the US.

The thing is from a numbers perspective there's nothing to really nitpick since its based on existing data. The problem that exists is some folks are pushing the narrative of inaccurate COVID 19 deaths; inaccurate in that they are wildly inflated. This would mean state data from all sorts of states is inflated and basically everyone is pulling a fast one. This is too similar to the election fraud narrative to have any real meat to it.

Making repeated false claims of death numbers due to covid being higher than those of world wars has become a mainstay of Ol Hairplugs mantra. The Dems are fumbling it again in their rush to make political points.

If the death toll from the pandemic were only 1,000 and Trump had said this, Trump supporters would be saying crap like, "Well, there is some truth to what he said! So that means he's 100% correct! LOL ROFL MAGA!"

And BTW, the US still accounts for north of 20% of the worlds deaths from Covid... while the US accounts for roughly 4.25% of the world's population.

We have failed on every level, and continue to do so.

We have less relative deaths than Czheck Republic, UK, Italy. And about the same as Spain, Mexico, Peru. Deaths is not an indicator of success, but circumstance. We have not failed. We created treatments to end it. As usual, our culture of freedom suffers the most and saves the most. If its worse than it has to be its because of this constant need to divide and blame in order to win. Nevertheless, we overcome.
