Making repeated false claims of death numbers due to covid being higher than those of world wars has become a mainstay of Ol Hairplugs mantra. The Dems are fumbling it again in their rush to make political points.

"
While the claim may be a talking point designed to show the sheer scale of the tragedy, the math has been criticized for not adding up.
The latest version of the statistics came on Thursday during President Biden's national address on the first anniversary of the pandemic-related lockdown. He revealed he had directed states to make all adults eligible to be vaccinated no later than May 1.
In his speech from the White House, Biden listed a trio of wars he had cited previously but, unlike prior examples, added the death toll from the 9/11 terror attack."

"As of now, the total deaths in America: 527,726. That's more deaths than in World War I, World War II, the Vietnam War and 9/11 combined. "

-- Joe Biden

Well, we have 400,000 in WWII

We have 100,000 in WWI

We have 3,000 in 9/11

-----------------

That's 503,000

Currently Worldmeter says...

United States Coronavirus: 29,927,572 Cases and 543,738 Deaths - Worldometer (worldometers.info)

543.738 > 503,000

So Joe's right.

What's the problem?
I lack confidence the requirements needed to be declared a Covid death are defined. They appear way to ambiguous

So?
Adding the 2,977 from 9/11 doesn’t change the total much.

What is more telling is the anti-Biden crowd’s propensity to nitpick on matters not substantive.

Who cares if 500,000 or 700,000 Americans died in those wars? The point Biden was making was that in one year we lost, due largely to indifference and incompetence, in the realm of the number of American casualties in 100 years of wars.

Did republicans finally got that log out of their eye ?

The thing is from a numbers perspective there's nothing to really nitpick since its based on existing data. The problem that exists is some folks are pushing the narrative of inaccurate COVID 19 deaths; inaccurate in that they are wildly inflated. This would mean state data from all sorts of states is inflated and basically everyone is pulling a fast one. This is too similar to the election fraud narrative to have any real meat to it.

Remember folks. COVID is only an East Coast problem.

Well, one was nature, the other was nazis, communists, and islamic terrorists. A pandemic killing old people is not the same as a century of soldiers fighting fascists.

Why not compare it to other natural causes like heart disease which kills 700,000 people every single year? Or decades of urban violence which have killed hundreds of thousand?

The pandemic will end. Wars will not, heart disease will not, homicide will not. The speechwriters just want this to sound like war so they can make people afraid and use it to expand govt. When its not.

Likewise the global warming 'hoax' that evil scientists worldwide are apparently profiting from. As usual nothing but unsubstantiated conspiracy rubbish.

It's a belated scramble to mitigate his outlandish claims in order to become the War" President that all Presidents try to claim. Not to mention that the losses of 9/11 aren't listed as war casualties anywhere but in Bidens scrambled brain. He also conveniently forgets the American Civil war.

We are arguing about this as if it changes anything, no matter how we cut up what stat is and is not included from various wars we are still stuck with over 530,000 people dead from Covid with the number still going up.

When it is all said and done much will be written about this period of US history and in context there will be comparisons to events, wars, deaths per year from this or that to give some degree of comparisons. Just the nature of context and explaining the gravity of the situation with Covid.

We are not done, we should not be letting our guard down, thus being vigilant with masks and social distancing should still be the order.

But hell no, lets argue about Biden saying something.

This is why the world laughs at us.

And BTW, the US still accounts for north of 20% of the worlds deaths from Covid... while the US accounts for roughly 4.25% of the world's population.

We have failed on every level, and continue to do so.

I think you just made another case for discrediting what Biden is dishing out. His record of this kind of activity is old and clear.

This kind of response to Biden's speech glaringly highlights how lucky we are that Biden won.

Do you have a point other than bashing Biden?

How far back should he have gone? The Barbary Wars, War of 1812, Revolutionary War?

So Joe's right.

What's the problem?

It's an idiotic argument, but you asked what's the problem......you literally quote, WW1, WWII, Vietnam, and 9.11 and then you go on to only count WWII, WW1 and 9/11, that....could be construed as a problem.

Regardless, like I said, it's on idiotic argument to make on either side, it does no good etc. But be honest about it. When you go out of you way to not be honest, might be an issue.

Are the people still dead?

No, it's pointing out the rather absurd nitpicking done in this regard. Referring to the death tolls of 20th century wars at least frames the comparison in events people remember readily versus going down the list of 18th and 19th century wars. Nothing he stated was incorrect based on the current figures.

If you're a sane or caring American go ahead and get ready for republicans to nit pick and cry about this kind of stuff for 4 years.

And then don't worry about it. Biden is fixing a bunch of messes simultaneously. We don't care what the people that supported the last guy, who created the masses, thinks or feels.

You are burning your candles at both ends

Hi!

I rarely go about correcting a statement, but in your case, I feel that I must.

Your definition of the basics of Trumpism is incomplete. There is one more basic: send money to Mr. Donald Trump.

Again, please excuse me for this post. It wasn't meant to be derogatory of you in any way.

Regards, stay safe 'n well.
