How Joe Biden handed the presidency to Donald Trump (1 Viewer)

Of course Joe Biden shares blame. But he didn't 'hand' the Presidency to Trump.

Trump won because the high inflation that happened. People felt the prices in their pocket book. It really is that simple.

No he did not win because Americans are infatuated with right wing politics.

No he did not win because Americans support his hostile immigration rants and policy.

No he did not win because of 'wokeness' and Kamala being far 'too left'.

The average American and even Trump voter is not the cultists that we see on this forum. They are regular people. Some are very naive and stupid but thats because of the people they surround themselves with and who they choose to listen to. Trump is deeply unpopular and his support is warning each day.

And who might that candidate have been? Harris was a fine candidate but she was a woman and the electorate was in the mood for a show. They are certainly getting that. It is going to cost them dearly though. I wish Biden had run and won again. He was at least cognitive enough to know who to ask when he did not have a clue. Having a petulant child who has never been told no AND is suffering from worsening dementia is the worst possible combo for a President.
Perhaps Harris could have won had the electorate picked her to be their candidate. But just thrusting her upon Democrats with no choice, I believe pissed off enough Democrats to not vote. I saw somewhere that 2024 was the lowest recorded turnout for Democrats.

No. I will not absolve any of the "Americans" who voted for trump. Or who voted 3rd party. Or who didn't vote for the POTUS. The stakes - keeping trump away from political power - were too high.

There's simply no excuse for that kind of deliberate sabotage of our nation, of our friends and allies, and of all of us.
The only "sabotage" would have been by the millions of former Democrat voters.

Biden deserves to be completely condemned by history for all of this. As well as Jill Biden and the people in his orbit who let this go on and gaslighted everyone by saying "it's just a stutter" or that he was jetlagged during the June 27 debate. And the people in the media that ran interference for him.
But he won't be condemned by history. He was BY FAR 1000 times better than 4th grader delusional dementia trumpdump any day, and the magats are starting to realize just how bad brain dead stupid grifter donnie-baby-boy is for them. Wanna talk about mental cognizance? Apparently, you don't watch much news, this fool sticks his foot in his fat mouth every time he opens it, and not just the American people, including many republican politicians, but the whole world in general is well aware of it. 😆

Perhaps....but likely only if that person were male.

There's still quite a bit of misogyny out there, among voters of all political persuasions.
Much moreso on the right of course... which makes Harris' attempts to distance herself from her previous progressive positions, seek endorsements from, campaign alongside and present herself as Republican-lite seem particularly ill-advised and off-putting to the voters who might otherwise have been excited by her candidacy. Biden, a man, was polling barely neck and neck if not behind Trump in 2023. Blaming misogyny for the outcome is (at best) a cop-out and distraction from the deeper failures of Democratic policies and strategies over the past ten years.

The poor guy should be credited for building up the Royal Air Force and the country's radar system before Churchill took over, certainly.

History was perhaps a bit too unkind to the poor bastard.
*shrugs* Even in world-leading countries, plenty of leaders barely even have their names widely remembered and most aren't remembered for any thing they actually accomplished. So in a way they're doing well if they're remembered for one thing... just a bit unfortunate for those who may have been otherwise decent or competent if their 'one thing' is unflattering. I can hazard a guess what Biden's will be.

Strom's buddy always should have been one and done. He was an offramp from Trumpism, and his political ego made him steer back onto the highway instead. Decline, age, his small circle of advisors - all irrelevant in terms of his desire to retain the Presidency. He wanted more when he should have recognized the moment, and contented himself with finally peaking his summit.

Also, he really blew it when he declined to choose Duckworth as his veep and successor.

I'll blame Biden for his corrupt attack to get the nomination from Bernie in 2020, which may well have denied the country an outstanding presidency by Bernie and denying trump re-election in 2024.

But I'm tired of lies the right falls for. Name three important things the Biden administration did wrong for the country because of his issues. Name one. Then let's talk trump. You want to tell the cult to shut up.

Nah.
Candidates play a significant role in influencing the election's outcome but it is ultimately the eligible voters who decide through their choice at the ballot box. Or their choice to stay home.

No, it is those here on the left. There is more than several on this board who correctly pointed out that Biden was using covid to campaign from his basement while hiding his mental decline. He didn't do that. He needed help wiping his butt. No one who was a part of this fraud should be anywhere near the presidency. Those who refused to acknowledge the apparent should slink away in shame. Those who saw what they wanted to see should take ownership of that. That Joe Scarborough still has a job or any audience after his proclamation in that this " was the best version of Joe Biden" is a travesty. Scarborough should be fired in a very public way. If he had honor he would quit.
Maybe Ed Martin can dig into other participants in this hoax. I read he's reviewing the last minute auto pen pardons.

Or people were just in denial.

I agree, Biden's refusal to recognize his limitations gave Trump a cakewalk. The Democrats would have been far better served by his stepping aside on running again (Like he had promised he'd do in 2020) and letting a vigorous process play out.

Instead, he destroyed his party's credibility and fobbed Harris onto an electorate that never really liked her.

We've had this conversation ad nauseam. The history books on Trump being elected a second time are going to point to Biden putting himself above the nation, waiting too long to step aside, and handing support to the wrong candidate. More than just Jill Biden or any other one person, the entire apparatus from the DNC to a complicit largely liberal leaning network of news outlets decided to comply and then enable the Biden reelection campaign train wreck.

I have my doubts on a populist left leaning candidate surviving the difference in message needed to secure a DNC nomination then turn around and appeal to everyone the far left has shunned from the party, but at least there would have been time to go through the process as opposed to what Harris faced with little runway and a whole lot of political headwinds.

Regardless, Biden himself did not hand the election to Trump. The Democratic Party, the aristocracy within, major donors, everyone from ABC to CNN, and a lengthy list of others were all in on trying to convince by deception that Biden was up for the challenge and demands of a 2nd term doomed Democrats.

As much as I do not expect the history books to be kind to Trump, I equally expect a couple of chapters on Biden. While Biden is no where near the bottom 10 worst Presidents list he is also no where near the top 10 and his exit, for lack of a better way to put it, is the closing argument.

Double down, blame misogyny and racism, but Biden then Harris secured the loss far more than Trump secured the win.

Oh, please.

The only reason why she was Vice-President was because she was a black woman.
I will agree to that, Joe put his mouth into it when he stated he would select a woman of color as VP. However, that does not change my assessment. Americans have never voted for a woman, and would certainly not vote for a black one.

Bullshit. If that were the case, any black woman would do. Harris has a law degree, she was the San Francisco DA for 7 years, CA AG for 7 years and a US Senator for 4 years.

Nonsense. Americans voted for a woman in 2016; Clinton won the popular vote even in spite of not being particularly likable, and probably would have won the election if any one of a range of variables had gone otherwise such as Comey's election interference, Trump's illegal hush money payments or Clinton's own ill-advised "basket of deplorables" comment. Or coming off the back of two prior Democratic terms for that matter; had she been the candidate in 2008 she very likely would have won then. Someone intelligent, well-known and liked such as Michelle Obama had she been interested would have wiped the floor with Trump in 2020 and likely won in 2024. Even Harris potentially could have won with a better strategy playing to her strengths, creating some distance from the unpopular Biden brand and time to run a proper campaign, though she probably wouldn't have won an open primary nomination; any incumbency link was a definite disadvantage last year.

Maybe if the Democrats put up a woman who earned it, they would.

Hillary's only claim to fame was that she protected Bill's infidelity when most women would have had the good grace to walk out. Dem primary voters rejected her in 2008 and in 2016, they cleared the field for her before the election and she still nearly lost the nomination to some decrepit old Commie from Vermont.

Kamala's only claim to fame was that Biden needed to sop to the black vote, so he picked someone who didn't even make it to the primaries in 2020. Then they fobbed her on the voters without a primary.

So, if you are really keen on electing a gyno-American as president, how about having one who earned it first? You know, instead of fobbing bad candidates on the electorate because it's "their turn" and then being all shocked when people vote for the Reality TV Buffoon instead.

Claim to fame? Is that how we elect officials now? I suppose if you voted for the realty star you might think so.

Do Harris' three degrees and increasingly responsible political positions not count?

Yes and no. There's no doubt he was in serious decline and should have dropped out much earlier - perhaps even resigning and giving the presidency to Kamala in 2022, but if you simply look at his presidency and its accomplishments without focusing on him, per se, it was a very successful one.

He left Maggot with a flourishing economy, low unemployment and dropping inflation. Yes, I do blame his pride and stubbornness for the loss in 2024 but he was, objectively, a very good and effective POTUS.

The biggest problem with Democrats is they're still running campaigns like it's 2004. The fact that Donald Trump is hated by the political class is considered a plus. Meanwhile Democrats brag about corporate CEOs endorsing their candidate when many Americans care less than zero who CEOs endorse.

What's sad is if you erase Biden's selfishness or the poor campaign Kamala ran Trump loses. You don't need to erase both. Blaming voters for losing elections is what losers do.
