[W:592] How is being kind and inclusive a bad thing? Aren't those things objectively good?

Is it fundamental good to be open-minded, inclusive, and kind to others?

  • No, we should only be good to people who think and act like me.

People watching the movie aren't supposed to be thinking about innocent people in the doomed buildings going about their daily business.
Think of the people working in the Twin Towers on 9/11 trapped inside a skyscraper doomed to death.
It's all part of movie magic. No one really gets hurt. Not even stray kittens.
I'm handwaving it that the people had already evacuated themselves from whatever danger knocked down the building. From the trailers, I'm guessing maybe it was the kaiju (giant monster)? But it could have been something else.

I have. Do you think you have?
Is that why you ignore posts to you?
Because you're an adult that can't back up opinions you have with facts? That's not adult like.

James Bond will never be a woman unless they name her "Jamie".

That would be like casting a woman to be Captain Marvel.
How is that true to our comic book history?
Wouldn't that be like having a Disney movie with a black or Hispanic Snow White?
Or a Batwoman instead of a Batman?
What would be wrong with a black or hispanic Snow White?
That is just a name, and snow is white. Has nothing to do with skin color.

But you are likely correct about it being something that is likely to get many heads to explode. NOTE: you did not say heads explode. I did. But I paraphrased.

I don't understand why conservatives feel attacked at the idea of inclusion and kindness.
At it's core, conservatives are reacting to fear, under the guise of anger as such, they see inclusion as a threat - specifically, a (replacement) threat to their social/political/economic prevalence - so naturally they're not going to respond to any moral call for kindness or compassion of any sort....attacking such as weakness.

A rather tribal, neanderthal mindset.

Actually, in the original story, she is called Snow White because her skin was white as snow. So it just depends on how important the source material is to you. Some source materials I am very passionate about, like Tolkien for instance. Fairy tales in general I don't care so much about. Although Snow White has special significance for Disney fans. People were more upset over Rachel Zegler making disparaging remarks about the original Disney movie than her being Latina. "Weird, weird".

Just out of curiosity, what Captain Marvel are you talking about? If you're talking about the original Billy Batson who said Shazam and turned into Captain Marvel, that hero is now called Shazam. I don't like it either, it's a long story about lawsuits, it was ruled Captain Marvel was a Superman ripoff, and long story short DC ended up with the character, but Marvel ended up owning the name. So there is a Captain Marvel in Marvel comics, who was a Kree warrior who died of cancer. There have since been several other Marvel characters called Captain Marvel, and the latest actually is a woman, and was played by Brie Larson in the movie Captain Marvel, the Marvels, and some of the Avengers movies.

Wait till they take a look at my latest thread about a female Silver Surfer ;)

The only constant in life is change.
70 yrs ago, the USA was very very white. At least those in power.

As for the options in the poll above.
I voted option 2.
Because, IMO, there is no such thing as objective truth or objective reality. Everything humans think and do is subjective.
Unless it's math or physics related. And can be proven as absolute by math or physics.

Don't you believe Disney would be completely stupid to cast an Hispanic woman as Snow White? Obviously it is a documented fact that Rach Zegler, a Latina, was cast as Snow White. She was well cast as Maria in West Side Story.
But everyone knows Snow White was touted as
"In the classic fairytale, Snow White is described as the 'fairest one of all' with 'skin as white as snow." 'yes i am snow white no i am not bleaching my skin for the role,' she wrote in a since-deleted tweet."

I never wanted to see the movie because I saw the original.
Disney opened itself to controversy and the movie flopped. WHy?

Nice of you to think people are so smart to evacuate a building that is about to be in the middle of a battle between super heroes.
How many people were able to escape from the second Twin Tower after the first Twin Tower was hit? All of them? Some of them? I'm sure you remember the horrific scenes of people jumping to their deaths.

The goal of government is so that the solution to big problems don't rely on the decisions of individuals, but as a function of democracy. Hence why climate change can never be solved by choosing to not fly on an airplane or driving cars, but by regulation and policy. And wealth inequality doesn't get solved by charity, but by taxing the rich.

If Trump gave everyone $1000 checks, but that money came by throwing poor people onto the street, the moral calculation would not be on the individual, but on the government.
How would you even know that free $1,000 checks from the government came from throwing poor people onto the street.? Did you tear up the checks coming from Biden during the pandemic?
"Climate change" will never be solved by regulation because the next Democrat president would be stupid to cut off production of fossil fuels while other countries in South America, the Middle East, or Russia are ramping up their production to generate revenues for their other national programs.

No one here said that. If still alive, he could. BUT if some black actor or female actress wanted to play that role, why should THAT upset you? Flash Gordon is a fictional character for crying out loud. How about the concept that you can enjoy Flash as a white guy and that other audiences can enjoy any remake with a black guy or female and leave it at that?

That list gets longer and longer with each day. Female Silver Surfer. Maybe some day a black James Bond. Now imagine if they created a superhero that was..................... Muslim!

I can imagine a country like Saudi Arabia getting behind the movie starring a Muslim as an international superspy. But it would be illegal to call him James Bond.
Maybe Shahmus Bondarali.

Wait till they take a look at my latest thread about a female Silver Surfer ;)
I find myself oddly amused at their affected responses toward such things. 😏

How 'bout you?

Nostalgia is powerful, especially for conservatives, because it brings back memories of times when you didn't have to deal with reality, with the nuances of the world. Hence why you have 50 and 60 year olds complaining that Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, James Bond, Superman, etc., are too woke.

The market for comics is no longer kids and teens (who frankly can't afford them at this point), but 40-somethings who can't accept that these characters are going to change depending on the culture. Because the people writing them now are often younger than the readers.
You're not wrong.
Only a clueless moviegoer would dwell on movie classics being WOKE.
They're classics because they recall how we were at the time.
I saw the documentary on the making of "Jaw" fifty one years ago.
People weren't as afraid to go in the water off a beach.
Now they should be.

Yes, and you were a child then.

Because of the pollution or the radiation?

Thank you for suggesting I was a child when those classic movies were first in the theaters.

People are afraid of swimming off a beach because there creatures there who can kill you because you may look like a swimming seal.
But I think you already knew that.

How would you even know that free $1,000 checks from the government came from throwing poor people onto the street.?

By studying budgets and policy agenda. Like how we know that Trump's tax cuts are being paid for by robbing Medicare and Medicaid and SNAP.

Did you tear up the checks coming from Biden during the pandemic?

I didn't receive one.

China is the global leader in green renewable energy, which could mitigate or solve man-made climate change, while America keeps falling behind because of poor right-wing leadership.

If you don't care about climate change, make sure to pass your thoughts and prayers to the people of Texas. And maybe stay out of Florida in the coming decades, unless you're related to Aquaman.

You didn't receive any free money from the government since 2020?
You're a citizen, right? You pay taxes right? You live in this country right?
You have a mailing address, right? Did someone steal your checks and deposit them? Where were you when all of this free money passed you by?

How many stimulus checks did Americans get?

In total, Americans received three stimulus checks since 2020.

The first round of checks was authorized under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, that President Donald Trump signed on March 27, 2020.

The payments for the first checks were $1,200 per person, or $2,400 for those filing jointly, plus $500 per qualifying child.
In December 2020, the second round of stimulus checks was sent out as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act.

The payments for the second checks were $600 per person, or $1,200 for married individuals, plus $600 for each qualifying child.

One year following the first checks, the third round of stimulus checks was sent out earlier in March under the American Rescue Plan.

The payments for the third checks was $1,400 per person, or $2,800 for married couples, plus an additional $1,400 per eligible child.

I'm referring to George Reeves' Superman.

People are afraid of swimming off a beach because there creatures there who can kill you because you may look like a swimming seal.

I'm more worried about being randomly struck by lightning.

But I think you already knew that.

You're more likely to be attacked by a shark than you are to be attacked Jason or Freddie, but only slightly.

Thanks for the odds of surviving a day at the beach.

I was in Canada at the time, I'm self-employed, and my income would have been over the threshold.

Ditto, amused. Can't believe there are that many insecure children.
