How do you deal with cackling hens in the office space?

I have an answer in mind, but I want to see other's answers first before I chime in.

Scenario: Imagine retracing your steps through 15,000 lines of code as a final verification to make sure you haven't missed handling any application state. There's not only all those lines of code, but all the entity relationships.

Half way through these hens start cackling things like "My husband had better have done the dishes when I get home or someone is sleeping on the couch." That's just an example, but it can be any mindless non-work-related conversation.

What would you do to remedy such a scenario?

Noise canceling headphone.... Oh, and grow a pair.

ADD: A distraction-free work environment.

Even if that tool were not available: What kind of executive idiot directs people to produce software and select the correct series of statistical equations in a barroom environment?

Dude, I have ADD, and I can work in any environment, you just are terrified of women, and there is no accommodation for that in the workplace.

BTW, I have been in HR management for about 25 years, and I have worked with the EEOC on dozens of cases, as well as the OFCCP for over 50 audits.

You don't have squat.

Ear plugs.

Thanks for the heads up! Should I return the settlement checks from previous employers?

It's funny you mention that. My CURRENT manager got me some of those shooting range style EARMUFFS, the ones that have a decibel reduction of 30 and breathe pretty well. He's pretty helpful. He explained that he understands where I'm coming from because he is hard of hearing from being in noisy server rooms for decades. I took on hard projects, looking for ones that other team members gave up on. Once I proved myself, I got two work from home days. The funny thing is that a noisy server room wouldn't bother me because it's "white noise".

You see, THAT'S how it's supposed to work.

Ear plugs.

The fact that you are proud of stealing from companies really shows your true nature.

All 100% legal. You enjoy taking **** and I enjoy avoiding it. Whatever makes your boat float.

Just kick back and realize those were affirmative action hires anyway and ignore them.

Wear headphones. Just like everybody else.

Btw, I have yet to see anything from your posts in general that is any better than what you describe from these 'hens.'

That's useful up to perhaps two hours per day. Ears need to get air. You could get open headphones, but everyone else around you hears what you're listening to. Open headphones would be an interesting passive-aggressive solution.

Excuses. They work for everybody else. They arent needed constantly, unless you are so intolerant of outside distractions that you cannot focus without silence?

You're not part of my audience, dude. Try getting that through your thick skull. If some struggling guy listened to you, he would be massively worse off.

Some "struggling guy" that thinks the workplace revolves around his personal lack of focus? His personal self-indulgence finding offense in women discussing their lives?

Why are you so intimidated by and afraid of women? Who messed you up?

The OP has posted in the past that he is on the autism/Asperger spectrum.

The company for ADA violations, failure to make a reasonable accommodation.

If headphones or "nothing" work for everyone else, I dont think you have a case.

It sounds like you haven't read the ADA!

If you're running an IT department content to produce facile, low thought solutions to problems fine. Would you want to have surgery with a bunch of interns standing around yacking and cutting up? Some positions and tasks require absolute focus.

American women just aren't cultured to do high focus work. I say American, because in China, most IT workers are women. However, they are predisposed not to produce chatter.

How do you deal with people like Pinochet? Just take em to a gas station and tie em up like a piñata and go to town ;) just like Mussolini.

Legal (non-harassing) conversations in the workplace are not actionable. If you cannot focus in that 'normal' environment for that job role, then it is you that has the problem...not people holding normal, legal conversations.

And dont kid yourself that your IT coding job is 'surgery.'

Er, I work in such environments and there are plenty of women in those roles. I'm one of them.

How many produce deliverables in the same quality and quantity as men WITHOUT sloughing off the harder tasks on other people?

When dealing with lemons make lemonade. When dealing with cackling hens, make fried chicken. I don't have the answer all I do know is for me that's a work environment that's radioactive. Not my cup of tea.
