For me the moment was many years back now, during an election cycle when both CNN and Fox News set up huge "social media centers." Rooms full of people scrolling through social media feeds to see what the people were saying about the election and other news.
I wouldn't know about that because 99.9% of the time I don't watch my news.
But the entire point of watching a journalist is that the journalist learns about the thing, and gives me at least a somewhat-informed presentation about the thing. If I wanted to know what sk8rbr04206969 thinks about economic sanctions against Iran I would have clicked on his ****ing feed. And I didn't. Because I do not give two shits about what some random nobody on the internet who has done possibly zero research thinks.
No this isn't about opinion. This is about news on the ground and citizen journalism. When I have seen cable news like when walking on the treadmill at the gym, most of their captured footage appears purchased from people off social media who were on the scene.
The "news" is often presented as discussion by a panel. You go to the CNN website, which honestly does a good job of labeling what they are doing and you see occasional news but much of it is labeled "Explainer" or "Analysis" in which those panels tell you what to think.

I don't need that from my "news" sources.
We did it to ourselves, though. They don't report the news anymore because it's not profitable. We don't subscribe to newspapers, either in print or online. We use adblockers and popup blockers which tank advertising revenue. We stopped getting journalism because we stopped paying for it.
News is absolutely profitable but you have to go ahead and report the news. People have caught on to the false narratives and gaslighting. CNN could have dug in deeply for example into the Hunter Biden laptop being real, questioned why with two assassination attempts we don't seem to know anything about the assassins, and the mental competency of Joe Biden as examples.
Instead they helped "fact check" and declare the Hunter laptop was Russian disinformation. They blather on in panels about how Trump basically brought on his own assassinations, and just repeated the nonsense that Joe Biden videos that showed him confused were "cheap fakes".
That sort of performance is unprofitable because it isn't news. A recent thread on here highlighted record homelessness. We have massive illegal immigration. Inflation certainly isn't "transitory" and housing is at an all time unaffordability high. The news doesn't investigate that. They prefer propaganda for the ruling class.
