How do we silence and censor right wing voices?

All news companies are using metrics to measure their performance including profitability. It could be viewership ratings, subscriptions, website traffic and so on but they absolutely are in competition with each other.
That much is true. What isn’t true about your analogy is that ratings is all that matters and is the sole indicator of who is better. In sports, the final score is all that matters. Hence your anaolgy is/was silly.

@ataraxia pretty surprised and disappointed by your support for overturning freedom of speech.

It is not speech

Good god, it is dangerous propaganda
A bit surprised and disappointed by you too, even 'liking' the explicit call for a China-style ministry of truth in post #4!

It's not just how ideologically illiberal and opposed to fundamental rights such a call is: It's how politically asinine is it to be showing support for censorship and suppression of "dangerous" ideas just as the reins of power are being handed over to the theocrats, fascists and oligarchs. It's as if LGBT people were responding to the Republican victory by saying "We really need a tougher crackdown on groomers!" Sure it's using the same kind of language in reference to very different things, and once they're in power they're probably going to do it regardless, but actively justifying their tactics seems incredibly... special.

I am not advocating anything. I am just describing what is happening. But I admit don’t have a good alternative. It is what it is.
I guess we will have to just keep taking the exploitation of free speech like this by unscrupulous, unethical, and unprofessional journalists, CEOs, and politicians- until we can come up with some alternative, or until it gets so bad it hits a crisis situation.

It feels pretty close to one already.

Oh I see how you went off the rails here.

MLB baseball is a legal monopoly. Legacy media in many ways is also a monopoly. They were the gatekeepers of information by virtue of owning the airwaves for decades before the internet became capable of opening opportunities for others.

I never mentioned some sort of final score, merely being in competition. If MLB baseball teams were getting whipped by amateur teams, they could use their legal monopoly to keep those teams down.

In legacy media, they fire their own staff, have friendly billionaires or other funding hire them back as "fact checkers" and then simply say the non-legacy media sources are "wrong" and should be shut down.

It isn't working out well for the legacy media and hence the premise of the thread, more and more censorship. They should be able to compete merely by just giving us the proper news. They don't and thus they can't.

Sure. But in trying to cater to a largely ignorant and uneducated populace, it has become a race to see who can entertain them more and tell them stuff they like to hear, rather than who can best give them the facts.

A race to what... nearly zero ratings? I could understand your point if there were some news behemoths and some stodgy regular news outlets that were retaining their viewership but not growing as quickly.

Nearly everyone is abandoning network and cable news because.... they don't report the news.

But facts are boring. Lies and drama sell more.

So that populace becomes even more ignorant and uneducated over time. It has become a vicious cycle and raced to the bottom.

The public has abandoned the supposed gatekeepers of news. They can just get it directly now from the sources. No one needs to stare into a camera and read it to them.

False.
They were the gatekeepers of information by virtue of owning the airwaves for decades before the internet became capable of opening opportunities for others.
Also false. Responsible journalism was the “gate keeper”. You won’t find the words “responsible journalism” in the podcast sphere or in right wing media. In fact, you find just the opposite.

Ahh, double-speak.
If MLB baseball teams were getting whipped by amateur teams, they could use their legal monopoly to keep those teams down.
Since MLB teams only play other MLB teams...your theory is patently moronic.
In legacy media, they fire their own staff, have friendly billionaires or other funding hire them back as "fact checkers" and then simply say the non-legacy media sources are "wrong" and should be shut down.
And of course, a conspiracy theory emerges in a lame attempt for you to save face.

LOL....

You don’t want news; you want confirmation bias. And it’s the easiest thing in the world to produce for your right wing news sites....again...when was the last time they reported anything that wasn’t nearly 100% favorable for Trump? When was the last time they printed a retraction? Hell...have they ever retracted anything?

Good journalism isn’t equipped for today’s society where a story has 1,000 words, sources that take weeks to develop, etc... So this is why you have this child-like view of the media.

The framers of our constitution, wrongfully it seems, presumed that the governed would be smart enough, to put it bluntly, tell chicken salad from chicken shit. This is why they set up a system where they got to choose the governors. November’s election proved that presumtion was faulty. Because Trump is shit.

With how much right wing misinformation plagued this past election cycle. Unqualified and opinion people online has replaced professional journalism. It begs the question of what can be done about it?

We went the right direction during COVID doing soft censorship over content spreading lies about the virus and pandemic. But how can we go further? I believe sites like this should stop allowing the spread but we need a massive movement. Delisting Twitter, Fox News, Joe Rogan, and other platforms that allow right wing thought from the Google search algorithm. We need heavier moderation and rules for real journalism. If you're not a journalist there should be laws where you can be fined/presented with prison time for spreading harmful lies especially about immigrants and other marginalized groups. The right wing needs to be defeated and it starts by eliminating their voice, thoughts, and ability to spread their lies.
The left are the true fascists. Thanks for the demonstration.

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

You're not the arbiter of all things true and false.

Also false. Responsible journalism was the “gate keeper”. You won’t find the words “responsible journalism” in the podcast sphere or in right wing media. In fact, you find just the opposite.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Sorry. You'll need a little more than you just screaming false over and over.

Ahh, double-speak.

No. Just another phrase you are using to dismiss rather than discuss.

Since MLB teams only play other MLB teams...your theory is patently moronic.

You don't have to like the analogy. Not my problem.

And of course, a conspiracy theory emerges in a lame attempt for you to save face.

LOL....

Just a fact. Sorry it makes you sad.

That's a lot of mindreading and actually you are the one spinning conspiracy theories. Look at the tale you've spun to justify your latest dismissal.

Good journalism isn’t equipped for today’s society where a story has 1,000 words, sources that take weeks to develop, etc... So this is why you have this child-like view of the media.

More mindreading, more conspiracy and more dismissals all from you.

This is why they set up a system where they got to choose the governors. November’s election proved that presumtion was faulty. Because Trump is shit.

The framers of our constitution decided censoring news would be the best path? Why don't you provide a few links for that?

I will...as soon as you provide a quote for me saying that.

Good luck. You’ll need it.

I meant your 'liking' of the OP's call to silence and censor right wing voices.

No right is unlimited.
You free speech folks act as if reasonable restrictions is unheard of when the opposite is true.

So, you're not for free speech? How *cough* American of you *cough*.

I will...as soon as you provide a quote for me saying that.

Oh you got it wrong because I saw saying that with sarcasm. You were sharing how you are so brilliant that you're going to fix the Constitution since the framers were all idiots.

The framers of our constitution, wrongfully it seems, presumed that the governed would be smart enough, to put it bluntly, tell chicken salad from chicken shit. This is why they set up a system where they got to choose the governors. November’s election proved that presumtion was faulty. Because Trump is shit.

So to clarify, you smart, all the people who wrote the actual U.S. Constitution, dumb.

You should reverse that, especially when you're the one supporting censorship.

I love it!!! The party that believes in equal opportunity and equality for all, believes in the inalienable rights and freedoms of all peoples and in the right of individuals to make their own decisions ..... want to silence and censor right wing voices.
Couldn't make if up if I tried.
You just did.

Not equality, equity.

So, you're not for free speech? How *cough* American of you *cough*.

Again, free speech is fine.

Dangerous propaganda is not.

A network like Fox needs to be labeled as right wing propaganda. A network such as MSNBC needs to be labeled as editorial.

News should be news.

Pretty simple no? Should help with your cough.

Happy New Year anyway! 😉

An absolute clueless take on FOX and MSNBC.

Your bias is truly astonishing. Wow. Even for a lib.

Unqualified and opinion people online has replaced professional journalism.
Give us an example of "professional journalism".

And who defined it?

Thanks.

An absolute clueless take on FOX and MSNBC.

In fact I, per usual, nailed it.

FOX is straight up MAGA propaganda and MSNBC is left editorial.

When i am right i am right.

Just admit it.

Fyi, Rutgers plays Indiana tonight.

Look out for Bailey and Harper..
