The say some 800,000 Fed workers are not being paid. Yet some ten million plus criminal aliens are still getting welfare checks. Pelosi, Schumer and democrats need to explain this.
 
Democrats don't attempt to "justify" those two things because they have the good sense to see that, your "sympathetically" disingenuous diction, one has nothing to do with the other.

Can't deal with a hostage taker, in this case, Trump. After all the keystrokes, all the arguments back and forth, all the reposted and retweeted rhetoric, can't do it.

Further or a more sophisticated answer: Can't deal with someone that eschews or attempts to subvert the process that is central to our system of checks and balances and the Article 1 authorities given to the Congress and out of his own personal frustration with his own brutish ignorance chooses coercion.

A majority of the country blames Trump and Republicans for the shutdown, and Lindsey Graham is begging Trump to reopen the government. Starting a thread on an anonymous, online debate forum blaming Pelosi and Schumer isn't going to change that.
