How did Omicron displace Delta? (1 Viewer)

let's go over your first paragraph
Do you have a link to back up anything that you state here? Where is the links?

Let's go over your second statememt
Where is your link to anything that refutes what was in the article

Failure to provide links on your part will be an admission you have nothing to counter the articles but opinion.
ummmm, the links were from YOUR post.....they were YOIUR links. Do you not read and digest your own links? What???

One again. Thank you for confirming you have nothing but opinion.

Do you fear the covid virus?

I don't.
Define "fear." Am I personally worried about dying from the COVID virus? No I am not. I was never afraid of this.

Was I worried about the millions of vulnerable people with preexisting conditions who would have died from COVID had we not instituted measures to protect society from the COVID virus before the vaccine was available? Yes I was. This is why I approved of the social distancing and mask wearing measures and the temporary shut down of business with a high potential of infection. In doing so, we only lost 800,000 American lives (and counting) to the COVID virus, rather than the many millions we would have lost had we simply let the virus "run its course" with no mitigation measures.

Were you worried about these people back before there was a vaccine? Do you approve of these measures that saved the lives of millions of people in America alone?

Ask the poster who brought up that people who get vaccinated for covid are doing it only out of fear.

You may have me confused with another poster. I am all for people getting vaccinated for covid and taking other precautions. I have stated on other threads that I am fully vaccinated including the booster.

My apologies then. I thought you were implying that if you don't personally fear the coronavirus, then you don't need to get vaccinated.

I don't fear covid. I did get vaccinated. Just like I get other vaccination to improve my odds for good health.
No problem. Appreciate the response.

Try providing some of your own. Or are you unable to find any?
I need a link to your link when I crucified your old links? I proved your links to be worthless garbage. I need no link to do that. It's like saying I need a link when I say Biden is an idiot.

Mike, this is no way to debate. I prove your link has no facts so what is there for me to link to? It's like you slapping up a link from waPo that says "Masks are very effective" and they offer no evidence and I am supposed to give you a link when your link had nothing in it but opinions. You need some studying on debate tactics and logic.

No . You gave an opinion that you believe the link was worthless. There , I just proved you are wrong (based on your logic).

One cannot debate with someone who dodges and does not back up his statement.

Now if you had used Trump in your example, I would agree with you. :giggle: No links are needed to know what Trump is.

Next time you post links cut and paste the facts from the link. I just realized this is another situation where a poster (you) slapped up two links and didn’t say what in the link(s) was factual (because there was nothing there) and I took the bait and read the links and scratched my head and somethung else and said WTF? And you then just claimed it was in there not saying specifically what but “Go fish. It’s in there.”

No more. excerpts required or I pass.

OK, I will quote the links..
Now, when are you going to provide your own links to back up your statements?
No more, No links, or I pass.

Post 83 of mine did contain direct quote from the first article.
""In recent laboratory experiments, multilayer cloth masks were more effective than single-layer masks, blocking as much as 50% to 70% of exhaled small droplets and particles.2,3 In some cases, cloth masks have performed similar to surgical or procedure masks for source control. Second, masks protect uninfected wearers. Masks form a barrier to large respiratory droplets that could land on exposed mucous membranes of the eye, nose, and mouth. Masks can also partially filter out small droplets and particles from inhaled air. Multiple layers of fabric and fabrics with higher thread counts improve filtration."

The second article basically backs up the first.

So much for the no quotes from links. You have no creditability..

Before I respond, is there anything else in that link (please repost it) that you are relying on, or is this the biggest and most important part of the link?

No , you do not get to redirect by asking more question.
You made a claim. I showed you were wrong. I provided a quote from the first article.

No, I provided the post number. You can go back to it. Post 83
Either go to post 83 or not. I don't care.

Update: More data out of SA.

https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.12.21.21268167v1

Key findings: Omicron has a higher viral load than delta, which is likely the reason for its fast spread. This is consistent with an outbreak in Norway that infected about 75-80% of people at a 100+ person gathering.

Also:
- Those with symptomatic Omicron infection are 80% less likely to be hospitalized than w/ Delta, but...
- Once hospitalized, those w/ Omicron are just as likely to have bad outcomes as those w/ Delta (severe disease, intubation, death, etc)

FWIW, SA has a population that, relative to EU and North America, is younger, less obese, and less vaccinated. Healthcare inequality in SA is closer to that in the US than EU & Canada

Yikes, not sure what happened - thanks for the heads up! See if I can't find it

You're getting hung up on prevention, as though that's required to lessen the severity of the infection. More than one study has shown that masks can reduce not only the risk of transmission but also the severity of infection if it's acquired.

To be fair, you actually *do* have a point about N95 masks - right now, they are not only the gold standard, but with this particular variant, a regular cloth mask is considerably less effective than with previous variants. But my reaction to that is, let's go out and get N95's or at least something similar such as a KN-95 or KF-94. There's ample supply - at least for now.
I'm just of the mindset if you are going to do something, do it right. Not half-ass.
