How can the right even suggest that they are Christian[W:487]

Re: How can the right even suggest that they are Christian

What Paul says...comes from Paul.

I said that Jesus did not say "the love of money is the root of all evil."

Paul did.

Jesus said that rich people were not going to get into Heaven (they have less chance of doing so than of a camel getting through the eye of a needle).

Teachings of the Apostles are God-inspired.

Furthermore, what Paul had stated is in line with Jesus'. Jesus didn't write the Bible!
If you doubt the authors of the Bible, then why do you use Jesus' teachings as your argument?

You're stumped.

Nothing to be stumped about.

The Bible contradicts itself all over the place.

Jesus did say rich people will never get into Heaven.

Your god made Abraham even richer than he already was.

Therefore your god was setting Abraham up so that he could not get into Heaven.

BUT...if you want to discuss this further...choose another place, because this is all off topic.

You're stumped. Clear as day!

You're not making sense at all. Obvious.

If you are attributing something to Jesus...but Jesus didn't say it, Paul did...you are either making a mistake or lying.

You decide.

I use the "the teachings of Jesus" because I mean the teachings of Jesus. Paul taught many things that Jesus never touched on. In my opinion, both were men (neither gods)...and both had good ideas. Too bad the "Christians" of today don't pay attention to what either taught.

But that is why I agree with the OP. It is amazing that people who call themselves Christians are willing to also call themselves American conservatives...when doing so shows they are HYPOCRITES.

Holy Spirit and Jesus are One!

I am...but you are baiting.

Get back to the topic.

I am on topic. You're stumped!

There are no contradictions.

Just look what you've previously said:

If you don't believe what the apostles had written.....then, what "teachings of Jesus," are you talking about?

Possibly on topic.

I don't do "believing."

Whoever wrote what (according to the Bible) Jesus taught...was a wise person who had decent ideas about how we ought to treat each other.

That is what I mean by the teachings of Jesus.

Anyone who accepts that the teachings of Jesus have merit and value...who also identifies as an American conservative...is a HYPOCRITE of the first magnitude. Anyone doing that should hang his/her head in shame at so dishonoring the teachings of Jesus.

Re: How can the right even suggest that they are Christian

On topic.

Besides, you were the one who brought up Jesus.

I brought up Jesus in a topic titled, "How can the right even suggest that they are Christian?"

Hummm. Why on Earth would anyone want to bring up Jesus in a thread with that title?

You were the one who used Jesus as your argument, not me.

Get it together, Frank.

You're referring to the Scriptures as the basis of your argument regarding Jesus' teachings. HOWEVER, you don't believe in the writings of the apostles (and yet, they're the authors of the Scriptures).

Therefore, if you don't believe in the writings of the APOSTLES (and that includes Paul).....what "Jesus' teachings," are you on about?

If you don't believe the Apostles' claim........

..........then , there should be no "Jesus' teachings,"

as far as you're concerned!

You're a very confused man, Frank.

Eh? On topic!

See? I even quoted you!

NOT ON TOPIC.

If you want to discuss religion with me...start a thread in the Philosophy & Religion fourm...and I will attend. I do not post in the Religion forum any longer...so that would not be a good place for it.

Decidedly not on topic.

Please refer to my post above.

I'm right here where my comment belongs. I don't know the religion of JBander.....but he seems just as confused as you.

I am responding and challenging your ridiculous claims.

If you don't believe the writings of the apostles, why on earth would you want to use Jesus' teachings in your argument?

I don't do "believing."

Sure you do. You have your own miracles you have to believe in (I.e. abiogenesis, etc.) to make your world view fly.

Whoever wrote what (according to the Bible) Jesus taught...was a wise person who had decent ideas about how we ought to treat each other.

"Whoever"? Haven't you done your due-diligence on who wrote the Gospels? Recommend you review what the early church father wrote about the traditional Gospel authors.

Anyone who accepts that the teachings of Jesus have merit and value...who also identifies as an American conservative...is a HYPOCRITE of the first magnitude. Anyone doing that should hang his/her head in shame at so dishonoring the teachings of Jesus.

That's HORSE MANURE.

I'm asking you.

I'm telling you, you're confused.

We are discussing why anyone who DOES "believe" in the teachings of Jesus...would insult those teachings by identifying as an American conservative.

I cannot think of any reason for that...other than abject HYPOCRISY.

It is not necessary for me to suppose the teachings of the apostles (or of Jesus, for that matter) are true or valuable...in order for me to discuss that point.

IF you think the teachings of Jesus are valuable...why on Earth would you want to be identified with an abomination like American conservatism?

FOR THE RECORD: As I have said several times: I think the teachings of Jesus are reasonable and valuable. I honor the man. I do not guess him to be a god...but I honor him for his insights into the human predicament. I certainly would not insult his teachings by identifying as an American conservative...which is the subject of this thread.

But you have attributed some of the things Paul said to Jesus. And I have called that to your attention. You seem to be embarrassed because your mistake has been noticed...and now you are trying to pretend the mistake is on the part of the people who have called your mistake to your attention.

Not gonna work, Tosca.

Whoever wrote the stuff attributed to the "early church fathers" is of no concern to what I wrote...and what you quoted.

I stand by what I wrote: " Whoever wrote what (according to the Bible) Jesus taught...was a wise person who had decent ideas about how we ought to treat each other."

That's HORSE MANURE.

Horse manure???

No way!

I said, "Anyone who accepts that the teachings of Jesus have merit and value...who also identifies as an American conservative...is a HYPOCRITE of the first magnitude. Anyone doing that should hang his/her head in shame at so dishonoring the teachings of Jesus."?

How can that be horse manure...when I hit that nail dead on its head?
