Israeli Army Withdraws From Major Gaza Hospital, Leaving Behind a Wasteland https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/02/...d_article_code=1.hU0.fSXd.Wa0PbgIPaOx7&ugrp=m

Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, once the fulcrum of Gaza’s health system and now an emblem of its destruction, stood in ruins on Sunday, as if a tsunami had surged through it followed by a tornado.

The emergency department was a tidy, off-white building until Israeli troops returned there in March. Two weeks later, it was missing most of its facade, scorched with soot, and punctured with hundreds of bullets and shells.

The eastern floors of the surgery department were left open to the breeze, the walls blown off and the equipment buried under mounds of debris. The bridge connecting the two buildings was no longer there, and the plaza between them — formerly a circular driveway wrapping around a gazebo — had been churned by Israeli armored vehicles into a wasteland of uprooted trees, upturned cars and a half-crushed ambulance.

The hospital was the largest in Gaza, one of its biggest employers and a shelter for thousands of Gazans during war. I had visited its wards in calmer times, meeting Palestinians wounded in a previous conflict and doctors battling Covid-19. When I returned this week, the place was disfigured almost beyond recognition after a 12-day battle between Israeli soldiers and Gazan gunmen and an earlier raid by the Israeli military.

Stubbornness. Pure stubbornness. That's how someone can still support Israel's pogrom against the Palestinians. Or they're just neocons.

If someone breaks into my home, it doesn't give me the right to return to their neighborhood and spray houses randomly with an assault rifle.

Hamas committed rape, murder and paraded the body of a naked woman all around the streets of Gaza in October.

That was the last straw for Israel.

They aren't attacking randomly or indiscriminately, they are going after the people (and the organization behind the people) who broke the cease fire, beheaded men and babies, raped woman and took hostages. The US bombed far more indiscriminately in WWII.

As far as I am concerned, this war is 100% on Hamas. They started it. The IDF will finish it.

Yeah maybe Hamas shouldn’t be using hospital as bases of operations if they didn’t want their hospitals destroyed.

Israel withdraws from enemy base after defeating terrorists using it and innocent civilians near and inside as human shields.

So now we have to support them committing ethnic cleansing?

So when IDF troops have shot unarmed Palestinian civilians with their hands up, those civilians are the people who “broke the cease fire, beheaded men and babies, raped women and took hostages”? Every Gazan civilian killed in bombings did those things?

You have a source for that claim?

If Hamas attacked a hospital in Israel and the IDF defended it, would that mean the IDF are “using human shields”?

And the reports of sexual violence against Palestinian women and girls in Israel custody?

Those are what? Good guy rapes?

Depends. In this scenario, are IDF troops using the hospital as a base of operations and hiding military gear in secret tunnels under the hospital?

If not, then no, it would not mean that.

The tunnels under Al Shifra were built BY THE Israelis. Are military forces guarding a hospital “using it as a base of operations”?

How can anyone still be pro Isreal?

fairly easy
the coutry and its people are wonderful
its anti-Palestinian policies, not so much

that's what the world needs to modify, as an international effort

prevent the once oppressed from remaining the oppressors

There’s a thread on the front page of this subforum right now with video of Gazan civilians walking unarmed with their hands up being shot and killed by Israeli forces.

Ime, Caitlin Johnstone has, sadly, provided the best answer to the question:

"...This has been happening for four five months. If you’re still supporting Israel after five months of atrocities, then you’re just a shitty human being. After five months you’ve lost any possible claim to have overreacted to October 7 in the emotional heat of the moment, and this is just who you are as a person...."

Really? I don't think so.

Are military forces guarding a hospital “using it as a base of operations”?
No. That's two separate things. One more reason your analogy is not apt. Hamas is not "guarding" al-Shifa.

I get that you're trying to make some sort of equivalence here. But it's not happening. Hamas are terrorists who store weapons in hospitals and use women and children as human shields. The IDF is not.

Defending Hamas' tactics is pretty low.

It's much bigger than just one hospital.
It's much bigger than just one city.
It is dishonest to see the situation as portrayed in these posts.
Isreal is directly responsible for kids dying in the street from hunger.
Kids, from hunger.
Hundreds of thousands of innocents killed and or starving.

Don't try to claim it is just this hospital and them make excuses for these criminal behaviors.

And they bombed world central kitchen, killing aid workers.

Israel will never be secure unless they manage to conquer most of the Middle East.
