Trump loyalists are planning a last stand Jan. 6.

President Donald Trump huddled with a group of congressional Republicans at the White House on Monday, where they strategized over a last-ditch effort to overturn the election results next month, according to several members who attended the meeting.

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) — who is spearheading the long-shot push to overturn the election results in Congress — organized the trio of White House meetings, which lasted over three hours and included roughly a dozen lawmakers. The group also met with Vice President Mike Pence, who will be presiding over the joint session of Congress when lawmakers officially certify the Electoral College votes on Jan. 6, as well as members of Trump’s legal team.

This is one of the most shameful moments in American history, and will long be remembered.

I expect civil unrest in D.C. on that date.

They have to know they don't stand a chance, right? There just is not the support. They are not going to get the House to agree to reject a single state's votes, let alone at least 3. They very likely wouldn't get the Senate to do so either because there are several moderate Senators and even just some that know this is a futile effort.

They are able to do this nonsense because there is no political cost for them acting like idiots.
I don't know what to do to them.

Putting Trump in jail doesn't seem like a good idea.

I would pass law that such behavior go to jail, that failing to build upon your predecessor was an impeachable offense, that filing false accusations of fraud go to jail.

Put some jeopardy on this move.

But it wouldn't be retroactive.

Or have all of their committee seats stripped from them.

I would be fine with that.
Too little for Sedition, we need more Justice in this Nation, and trump should get his after Jan 20.

My porn would be seeing Trump face the music for criminality and all of the apologists get dragged down with him... but sadly I don't think that the world works that way.

Sadly I believe it will have to remain a fantasy, but still a good one, and a guy hope it comes true.

This is a consequence of letting Nixon fly off, imo.

True, but politicians have been getting away with a slap on the hand for many decades, most don't even get that much punishment.

I believe this is treason and any Congressional member who disputes the Electoral Collage vote on Jan. 6 should be charged with treason immediately.

It's all about their electorate base who are Trump supporters & their pending reelections.

I'd put some events significantly above it on the list, but it's probably in the top 100 somewhere.

They are all traitors and should be kicked out of congress.

Amazing..

Right after John Wilkes Booth shooting Lincoln.

Problem is that we are in the beginning-middle of a rolling barrage. I’ll hit you up when the smoke clears and see if we can pin the spot on the 100 worst list.

Right after John Wilkes Booth shooting Lincoln.

Well, there's Native American genocide, chattel slavery, half of the country rebelling and trying to leave so that the rich few could keep their slaves, and events like that. Perhaps a top 100 list of the most shameful events would be an interesting debate.

It's a political crap show with no real good outcome; McConnell understands this which is why he recommended no Republicans challenge the election. If they contest the elections in this manner with nothing but speculation to justify disputing the vote, it sets a terrible precedent for elections going forward. I'm sure McConnell was banking on some kind of outcome through the courts or the state vote certifications, once that didn't seem viable and even the SCOTUS ruled against some of the lawsuits, the writing was on the wall.
