House Orders Up Three Elite Jets

Last year, lawmakers excoriated the CEOs of the Big Three automakers for traveling to Washington, D.C., by private jet to attend a hearing about a possible bailout of their companies.

But apparently Congress is not philosophically averse to private air travel: At the end of July, the House approved nearly $200 million for the Air Force to buy three elite Gulfstream jets for ferrying top government officials and Members of Congress.

The Air Force had asked for one Gulfstream 550 jet (price tag: about $65 million) as part of an ongoing upgrade of its passenger air service.

But the House Appropriations Committee, at its own initiative, added to the 2010 Defense appropriations bill another $132 million for two more airplanes and specified that they be assigned to the D.C.-area units that carry Members of Congress, military brass and top government officials.
Someone needs to explain to Congress that "hard choices" in a down economy does not mean haggling over a Bentley vs a Rolls on the taxpayer's dime.

Congressmen can fly coach just like normal working stiffs. Better yet, they can ride Amtrak--at least then some benefit would be had for the subsidy they give the rail line every year.

Couldn't agree more. They don't need to travel in that kind of luxury.

Anyone want to take bets on how long it takes someone to accuse Obama, or tie him to this? I say $50 in 10 posts from now.

Well, that would be incredibly stupid. Last I heard, Congress didn't work for him.

I just find congresses, pelosi and gang's hubris astounding. Here they lecture ceo's for private jets, and then order up 3 more for themselves?

Take note: The accusation is made against Queen Nancy and the Anti-Republicans in Congress.

Remember who slipped the money in:

Keep in mind who loves to use the Air Force as her own personal Air Taxi Service:

Pelosi Made Repeated Requests for Military Aircraft, Documents Show - Political News - FOXNews.com

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has repeatedly requested military aircraft to shuttle her and her colleagues and family around the country, according to a new report from a conservative watchdog group.

Representatives for Judicial Watch, which obtained e-mails and other documents from a Freedom of Information request, said the correspondence shows Pelosi has abused the system in place to accommodate congressional leaders and treated the Air Force as her "personal airline."

Basically, Dave Obey gave Queen Nancy more planes to play in.

Elitism? Hubris? Hypocrisy?

The last time I read the Constitution, Congress works for us.

"Ours was the first revolution in the history of mankind that truly reversed the course of government, and with three little words: 'We the people.' 'We the people' tell the government what to do, it doesn't tell us. 'We the people' are the driver, the government is the car. And we decide where it should go, and by what route, and how fast. Almost all the world's constitutions are documents in which governments tell the people what their privileges are. Our Constitution is a document in which 'We the people' tell the government what it is allowed to do. 'We the people' are free.

Queen Nancy hates to be upstaged by anyone. Have to keep up appearances, ya know!

What is sad, iirc, San Fransiscoians, protested her because she wasn't liberal enough.....
What is sad is that the Queen can afford her own jet to fly back to her California vineyard to watch the little people pick grapes for her--and instead she foists the bill on the American tax payer.

She must love those men in uniform!

It's interesting how people often don't understand or notice their own hypocrisy.

But you know, they are very busy and important people. Especially Nancy.

What's even more pathetic, are the people who close thier eyes to glaring hypocrisy for thier party.... I find it very disturbing.

I love my representative, he's a Democrat. But I can't imagine him behaving like this. In fact, I've ended up sitting near him in coach a couple of times on flights between our city and DC.

He must not be as busy and impotent as Nancy is.

This is the kind of thing that makes people so nuts about our overspending congress! John Adams rejected the grand carriage that came to take him to the continental congress and he rode his horse instead.

Oh, no, since he's a blue dog, I doubt he ever makes the list. Then he drives his truck another three hours home from the airport each trip. It's a glamorous life, I tell yah.

Queen Nancy on a horse? There's a scary image. Which mouth would get the bit and the bridle?
