One of the worst things Nancy enacted three years ago finally got tossed in the trash.

No more Representatives staying home and telling someone else to use their vote.

You're seriously blaming Nancy Pelosi for vote pairing? That was around when Methuselah was in short pants.

curious. how is vote pairing the same as remote voting?

To be fair, it was Nancy Pelosi that instituted the vote by proxy rule on the floor, but as usual @Mycroft is being enormously disingenuous in his presentation at to suggest it was somehow an evil rule. Maybe he should study matters before he posts his hyper-partisan slags.

Here is what happened:
Proxy voting had been allowed in the House committees previously, but never on the floor.
BUT why was the rule changed?

With the coronavirus pandemic continuing to impact the United States, Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday formally triggered a rules change allowing proxy voting on the floor in upcoming debates
Yet older members or those with health conditions may find it easier — and safer — to employ the new procedure. Some members from Western states also find travel particularly difficult during the pandemic as U.S. airlines have dramatically reduced their service because of slumping demand.

IT is a shame we have contributors on here who post stuff JUST to score points or to own the Libs without first researching why the rule change was made by Pelosi, or asking us to engage in a debate (this is after all a debate forum). Some people are NOT capable of better.

ever hear of Covid? 🤡

and another thing, we never need to meet in person for anything any longer, it's 2023.

Seems very old school.

It’s 2023, why can’t people vote remote?

Their constituents aren’t in DC - the people they serve and represent are in their individual districts across the entire country.

Seems like the GOP would prefer to have Congress in DC then spending time in the districts with the people they represent.

Why? Phones, tablets, laptops - countless apps and platforms - are all available to access work remotely, including voting.

Guess the GOP doesn’t care about the constituents.

McCarthy wants them all there for some reason. The ability to better pressure holdouts comes to mind, but who knows.

Covid has been a non-issue for a long time.

Yea, this doesn't change anything.

But conservatives will high-five each other over it.

Small victories for small people.

Well, DC is also the land of lobbyists and all the money people - so perhaps the GOP just wants those folks to have more a voice and influence than the voters that Congress represents.

Sure does seem that way.

I don't even see laptops on the house floor, its archaic, like in person voting.

Really?

Too bad the health agencies are unaware.

Your highest Covid numbers were exactly one year ago, second highest now. But you have no idea. How surprising, not.

Agreed. The pressure can come from lobbyists as well. I may be overestimating the power of face-to-face, but I think it has something to do with the decision.

It could also be just an expression of McCarthy's ego.

If they are on the payroll they should be there to vote ...................

McCarthy is just making headlines ...... the speaker position is over his head he will fail!

If McCarthy would try to get rid of Santos he would lose his position because one the other anti American bogus republicans would call him
out = no longer speaker McCarthy.

I had forgotten about the Covid issue.
Thank you for pointing out @Mycroft's misleading post.

Great! Lets hold criminal trials remotely too. Juries can just sit at home in their jammies and have the information sent to them on their laptops. I'm sure that will work out just fine.

BTW, how did remote learning work out, especially for elementary school through high school? How well are those kids doing today?

Constituents aren't in DC because they voted for politicians to BE THERE AND REPRESENT THEM. When congressional members are not present to be seen, to be heard, to be certain it is THEY who are casting votes. Then the entire process is opened up to fraud and abuse.

If any member of congress doesn't want to do their job properly, then they should resign.

Rest assured that McCarthy has a "self-serving" motive behind it. It may take a while for the reason to be flushed out.

Stuck on mail voting, I see.

You need to reread your post. It defies logic.

Remote learning planned at the last minute didn't work well at all.

That doesn't mean that remote learning is a bad concept. Teacher's aren't trained for remote learning, and the system isn't set up for it.

Even after two years of covid, the education system isn't set up for 100% remote learning, that doesn't mean that it is not a practical idea.

Explain why proxy/remote voting is a bad thing?

Clearly, another dumb ass Trumplican idea in the vein of telling their constituents not to use mail in ballots.

Huge difference between learning and voting, as well.

Facts and truth only confuse and get in the way of @Mycroft’s messaging.

Stuck on mail voting, I see.

This isn't about mail voting, it is about elected representatives being present in the place the law constitution requires them to be in order to serve in our process.
You need to reread your post. It defies logic.
Riddle me this then: Do you believe that mail in jury service would work too?

Logic is defied by the notion that being present at you place of duty is an inconvenience.
