House Democrat backs down from impeachment: 'I don't see the value of kicking him out of office'

I want history to record this. Let those Senator's names be mocked and ridiculed in schools for 200 years for putting party over country and the rule of law. Let history show their respective cowardice in the face of serious challenges to our nation.

...and, I do support the eventual indictment and trial of Donald J Trump post presidency, again so that the ledgers of history are balanced and correct. (I have no problem with his pardon after that trial)

Like any jury, the Senate is required to view the evidence in the case and decide accordingly. Isn't that what the Constitution requires? Then the American people can judge whether the Senators did their job as impartial jurors or not.

A censure will be far worse than worthless for the Democrats. No one ever thought Trump was going to be convicted by the Senate, but if the House doesn't impeach him, they'll probably lose in 2020. In fact, "This is politics," is not going to cut it with me. Everyone knew it was politics. Anyone who went a step farther and claimed that the country and Constitution rather than politics and party influenced their position should lose their seat.

The Senate will not be in charge of voters in 2020 and the GOP Senators may regret their fealty to an unpopular President who has so obviously abused his powers. Most Americans are not fond of would be kings or we would have one already.

Most people think Hunter Biden landing a $80,000 per month position on a board with no apparent duties doesn't pass the smell test. Especially with his daddy calling for the firing of the guy investigating that company. Most people find it odd to assume there's nothing nefarious going on there, but call for the head of the guy asking questions about it.

That's the thing though, even if they vote for impeachment it will end up as nothing anyway. A censure could be seen as an action taken to keep the president in check versus nothing at all.

The information they revealed confirmed that this President has abused the power of his office, therefore I continue to support impeachment."

FFS. This woman should be voted out of office. I said earlier in the thread that Pelosi was going to be pissed. Looks like she got pimp slapped back into a place she never should have left. Now she's managed to alienate everyone. Smooth move, Lawrence.

Then do both. Impeachment is impotent because the Senate won't convict. Censure is impotent because it doesn't matter.

What you're leaving out is public perception. If they move on impeachment and people don't feel it's warranted, then they not only lose in the senate, but voters will be further convinced of the "nothing burger" allegations. The Democrats are in a tough spot and are likely to not want to go all in. We'll see how this plays out, but the more time passes then the less people will care about this.

Public perception is all that matters in politics. The point I'm making is that it will be worse on the Democrats if they don't impeach at all than if they impeach and then lose in the Senate. The goal was never to remove Trump via impeachment, in my opinion. It was to convince enough voters that Trump should be a one-term president.

And the American people will come to the same conclusion that the polls show now, about 50/50. If anything, the biased hearings have gone backwards for the Democrats and the Senate will have fair hearings.
