But they are in third world nations and are because the rich takes most of the income and gives the workers squat. This is your comparison of what we should aspire to?
Why is everything with you Republican vs. Democrat, Rich vs. Poor.
Can't we just all agree that using emergency government resources in titty bars, is wrong?
Its about ethical priorities. We have too many huge problems we face and much greater injustices in this country than to spend time with pittling issues like drug testing the poor and making it harder to get an abortion in the case of raper or incest.
The poor have been dealt a crappy hand and the the Republicans have done most of the dealing to acquire more wealth for those at the top.
Jeeez man, that has nothing to do with this thread.
Food stamps should be used at titty bars, right, wrong?
It all comes to the most efficient usage of the money.
Buying $3 energy drinks isn't the most efficient way to use funds limited for food.
Normally, I'd be cool with some slack in regards to small splurges, but you give an inch and they take a mile.
If a person is working and uses his money to buy an energy drink it is one thing. A person who is getting free money for food to help get them nutrition they need and instead is choosing to blow it on energy drinks is a completely different thing.
Having an energy drink,or smoking, or going to a strip club ect is not in itself bad. But using money that I give you to feed your kids on it is.. There is a difference
It pales in comparison to millions being forced into poverty to make a few richer. We have much bigger fish to fry.
But it is an efficient way of not falling asleep at a job....which helps pay the bills.
Working 90 hours a week would likely disqualify you from State and Federal food stamp programs.
At minimum wage, that's 833.50 a week gross.
That's over $43k a year, well over the qualification standards for both programs.
Strip clubs and liquor are not necessities. If taxpayer money is used towards such ends, it is an injustice and a misallocation of funds. If one is receiving temporary assistance at the behest of the taxpayer, they should use those funds to help to try and get themselves to the point where they are no longer dependent. NOT using gov't dollars to go to the titty bar. When you are on public assistance, you have the obligation to use those dollars responsibly. I say this as a staunch liberal who is a proponent of the welfare state.
Except that welfare also goes by a persons bills that are needed. IE rent, electricity etc etc. And they also go by how many people are living in the household.
You might personally know a lot of conservatives who support those things. I don't know any conservatives who support tax writes for crap like that and I definitely do not support tax write offs for things like this. I do not support any tax write offs or any graduated income taxes. I favor flat tax in the form of a national sales tax.Poor people do not spend much money and therefore will not be paying much in taxes while rich people spend a **** load of money and therefore will be paying a **** load of taxes under a flat tax in the form of a national sales tax..
Get more sleep, eat a better diet, have a soda.
All these things are better alternatives to energy drinks.
They go by income and household members.
The average household has about 2 kids, 1 or 2 adults.
I believe that still disqualifies you for food stamps, at $43k a year.
None of which is possible when you're working 3 jobs....well with the exception of the soda...but soda's dont' keep ya awake nearly as well as an energy drink will.
They also take into account a persons needed bills.
I'm not so sure about that.
Still looking into it.
That just sounds like your killing yourself then.
I've done the 2 job thing, but if you can't sleep enough, then your a danger to yourself and everyone else, regardless of your consumption of energy drinks.
They do in my state. In my state a persons foodstamps can change if they move from a $500 rent house to a $400 apartment. Usually they get less. If they move from a $500 rent to a $700 rent they will get more in foodstamps....even if the amount of money they get via thier job has not changed and no one is added or subtracted from the number of household members.
I've known people that do it. Its not easy but they do whatever they can to get the bills paid.
Please explain how was I said relates in any way, shape, or form to the concept of the "noble savage."
Call me crazy, but for some reason I seriously doubt that people on welfare would have the time to go to strip clubs or liquor stores. In addition to this, what strip club or liquor store do you know is going to accept a welfare card? Or for that matter, what person on welfare would go to a strip club?
When my exwife an I first got married and I was just an E-5 in the Army and she wasn't working, we were at Ft. Polk. One Saturday night, we decided to splurge and go buy 15 pounds of boiled crawfish. To most of you that doesn't sound like a big deal, but crawfish is a delicacy and it's not cheap--15 LBS.s runs about 40 bucks and that sounds like a lot, but it's not.
Anyway...while I was waiting, a dude came in and bought 60 pounds of live crawfish--uncooked--and I-be-damned if he didn't whip out a welfare card to pay for it. I was so damn mad I could have knocked the rest of his teeth out of his mouth.
