House bans welfare recipients' money from strip clubs, liquor stores

But they are in third world nations and are because the rich takes most of the income and gives the workers squat. This is your comparison of what we should aspire to?

Why is everything with you Republican vs. Democrat, Rich vs. Poor.
Can't we just all agree that using emergency government resources in titty bars, is wrong?

Its about ethical priorities. We have too many huge problems we face and much greater injustices in this country than to spend time with pittling issues like drug testing the poor and making it harder to get an abortion in the case of rape or incest.

The poor have been dealt a crappy hand and the the Republicans have done most of the dealing to acquire more wealth for those at the top.

Jeeez man, that has nothing to do with this thread.
Food stamps should be used at titty bars, right, wrong?

It pales in comparison to millions being forced into poverty to make a few richer. We have much bigger fish to fry.

It all comes to the most efficient usage of the money.
Buying $3 energy drinks isn't the most efficient way to use funds limited for food.

Normally, I'd be cool with some slack in regards to small splurges, but you give an inch and they take a mile.

But it is an efficient way of not falling asleep at a job....which helps pay the bills.

For the smoking and stip club bit I agree. But having an energy drink may help someone keep a job which also helps provide things for the kids...or are you just worried about what they eat and could care less about things like clothes, heat, a roof over thier head?

Working 90 hours a week would likely disqualify you from State and Federal food stamp programs.
At minimum wage, that's 833.50 a week gross.

That's over $43k a year, well over the qualification standards for both programs.

Except that welfare also goes by a persons bills that are needed. IE rent, electricity etc etc. And they also go by how many people are living in the household.

Have I agrued anywhere against banning people from using welfare benefits at the liquor store or strip clubs? No? Then proceed to address what I was actually talking about please.

They go by income and household members.
The average household has about 2 kids, 1 or 2 adults.

I believe that still disqualifies you for food stamps, at $43k a year.

If anything, there may be an argument being made for potentially lowering the amount of welfare assistance, but the whole petty control issue stuff there is no justification for whatsoever.

In my state, to qualify for food stamps, at $43k a year, you'd have to have 9 household members.
Not likely for the majority of people in America.

Edit: In Pennsylvania that is.

A national sales tax is easily gotten around by the rich. Just don't buy stuff in the US.

Get more sleep, eat a better diet, have a soda.
All these things are better alternatives to energy drinks.

None of which is possible when you're working 3 jobs....well with the exception of the soda...but soda's dont' keep ya awake nearly as well as an energy drink will.

That just sounds like your killing yourself then.
I've done the 2 job thing, but if you can't sleep enough, then your a danger to yourself and everyone else, regardless of your consumption of energy drinks.

I'm not so sure about that.
Still looking into it.

They do in my state. In my state a persons foodstamps can change if they move from a $500 rent house to a $400 apartment. Usually they get less. If they move from a $500 rent to a $700 rent they will get more in foodstamps....even if the amount of money they get via thier job has not changed and no one is added or subtracted from the number of household members.

I've known people that do it. Its not easy but they do whatever they can to get the bills paid.

I know they do that in relation to SSI and I believe TANF.
I haven't seen the same for State food stamps yet, could be true with SNAP though.

Please explain how was I said relates in any way, shape, or form to the concept of the "noble savage."

Well, most of them are black, right?

But seriously, think of it in economic terms instead of socio-cultural. The parallels are obvious enough. You claim that the "other" (those being poor welfare people, college guy) are too busy and too well financially managed to go to strips clubs or drink. That's ridiculous.

Fine, you're crazy. But I think the above post is really just privledged ignorance. You doubt they have the time to go to liquor stores?? Don't you remember the welfare-cards after Katrina?

'Noble Savage' dial, down.

are you leaving part of the story out?
I have absolutely no clue how something like that could make you made.
I gut bought FOOD with a welfare card? oh the rage LMAO

did he buy anything else? maybe he spent his whole card on crawfish? Im just saying the snip-it of story you told me would never inspire anger in me especially to want to assault him????

So weird.

And as to the OP I like the law. Assistance money should be limited to certain items for sure.
