Dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was one of the best things President Truman ever did. Those bombings, horrible as they were, potentially saved hundreds of thousands of Allied soldiers’ lives and millions of Japanese lives. Despite what some people on both the Right and the Left claim, the Japanese were NOT going to surrender even though everyone knew the war was lost. The Imperial Army generals were determined to fight to the end, and one way we know this is because they attempted a military coup even after Emperor Hirohito made the decision to surrender in order to prevent the broadcast of said surrender, though that coup failed.the first Atom Bomb fell onto a city
