Sounds like an improvement on capitalism in action, consumers having access to more information so they can decide which businesses to support. Offhand, seems like opposition to this could come from two plausible sources, A) not wanting consumers to have access to information about the businesses they're giving money to, or B) recognizing an inherent weakness of a consumer-driven economy (which may or may not be balanced by its strengths) in that consumers often don't make the best decisions. I'd agree with B myself, and I'd even agree that there are probably some cases in which 'DEI' initiatives are silly, cynical or taken too far... though even in the worst case scenarios, in terms of unwise consumer influences this would rank way behind those that are undermining the earth- and eco-systems on which our global civilization depends such as climate change, mass extinction and so on.

If your objection is based on A, preferring a more opaque economic system so that consumers can't make such informed decisions, there's not much more to be said - pretty standard quasi-authoritarian right-wing fare.

The racial biases in recruitment and promotions among big companies (with tech companies likely among the worst offenders) have been repeatedly proven in a variety of ways. Most simply, sending out identical resumes with obviously 'black' names versus obviously 'white' names (or feminine names versus masculine names) has pretty consistently resulted progression to a callback or interview stage for white/masculine candidates more often than black/feminine candidates. It's a nice idea to pretend that just 'ignoring' race and sex would result in fairness, but the pretty overwhelming evidence indicates that it simply results in ignoring the organizations' and individuals' own biases. That is obviously the opposite of merit-based recruitment and promotions in corporate America, as you would know if you were interested in truth and honesty.

Fix education funding and biases, fix policing biases, fix infrastructure and development biases... then a couple of decades after that supposed 'MEI' will be an approach with little if any drawback. For now, consumers helping businesses be mindful of their biases seems like mostly a good thing, on balance.

The color of someone's skin or ethnicity should not matter. Running a business, especially small or starting up, they must, but the powers that be want to screw over the little man. It's using racism to make money and the big money wins hands down.....that's all this is.

So, it's important to understand that racial bias in hiring practices is rarely conscious. Hardly anyone thinks to themselves "I am scoring this person lower because they are black." That's not how it works. Rather, there's just a general statistical bias of ranking the merit of black candidates lower even when they are equally qualified.

Merit isn't some objective thing you can perfectly measure. It's subjective, and our brains are prone to all sorts of biases. Including bias based on race. This CEO is arrogant in that he thinks he's the only one hiring based on merit. Everyone thinks they are hiring based on merit. (nepotism hires notwithstanding)

DEI programs don't rank people of color higher than white people with the same qualifications. It's an attempt to offset the fact that people of color are being ranked lower than they should be.
Take this study as an example

Researchers sent fake resumes to employers, with equivalent qualifications. The changes made were the candidate having white-sounding names vs black-sounding names. Emily and Greg are substantially more likely to get a call for an interview than Jamal and Lakisha. 50% more likely! And this is before meeting the candidate. (because the candidate doesn't exist) The only basis on which to judge the candidates at that point is the resume, and the resumes are equivalent. Personally, I like this study because it eliminates all the human factors variables that arise once you go to the interview stage.

So, it is clear that merit doesn't get measured as accurately as we'd like to think.

It shouldn't, but to this day there are substantial differences in hiring outcomes. People of color face an uphill battle, even with these DEI programs you are all terrified of.

There are many studies showing diversity and inclusion in the workforce makes more sense, makes more money, creates happiness, less discrimination claims, and better performance, and they are more innovative. They are also a draw to more people and have a better choice of employees.

Hopefully people know this now and will hire accordingly. We will see, after eliminating these programs( that actually helped those companies who would not normally hire diversely,) we might see more all white companies that fail, then that's on them. There are enough who will hire diversely now on the left to fill the gap, and since we are seeing a drop in available employees with the rise of the Silver Tsunami and declining birth rate, it's now just a plus to have more available employees.


If it's only liberal businesses that are thriving in the future, so be it. I could care less if Republicans crash and burn their anti woke white train. Good luck!
