HERO COP'S BRAVE STEP - New York Post

A cop left brain-damaged when a lunatic stabbed him in the eye walked smiling out of Bellevue Hospital yesterday after a four-month battle to save his life.

And Sgt. Timothy Smith, from Medford, LI, vowed to return to full duty.

"That's my plan," the frail NYPD officer said as he took his first steps outside the medical center, flanked by hundreds of applauding supporters.

Smith -- who celebrates his 36th birthday today -- was responding to a 911 call in January when rampaging psychiatric patient Neil Perreira stabbed him in the left eye and chest.

It's always amazing to me when officers who are severely injured in the line of duty go right back to work, as soon as they are physically able. That's heroism.

Kudos to this member of the thin blue line.

Another brave police officer also disregarded by Voidwar:

Birmingham police officer injured in scuffle with suspects - Breaking News from The Birmingham News - al.com

A Birmingham police officer was injured at about 4 p.m. today as she attempted to stop three males she suspected of carrying a handgun along Pike Road in west Birmingham.

The West Precinct officer, whose name has not been released by police, was responding to an unrelated call in the 2800 block of Pike Road and noticed three males getting into a car with what appeared to be a handgun, according to Sgt. Johnny Williams.

The officer initiated a traffic stop, but the suspects took off in the car, Williams said. They drove a few blocks to the intersection of Fayette Avenue, then left the vehicle and ran into an alley, he said.

The officer pursued the suspects and reached one of them. The officer was injured in a scuffle and has been transported to UAB Hospital. Her injuries are not life-threatening, but they are "somewhat serious," Williams said.

Not fun to deal with 3 potentially armed suspects by yourself...I would imagine that takes a certain amount of ---dare I say it---courage?

The type of courage that isn't typically unexhibited by the couch critics who throw stones at police officers from the safe anonymity of their computers, I might add.

Mebbe this stupid bitch should have left three Americans excercising their second amendment rights the hell alone in the first place. I got no sympathy, because the second amendment says she had no probable cause.

The police don't make gun laws, they merely have to enforce them. I disagree with gun restrictions as much as anyone, but I don't fault the officer in this story for doing her job and upholding the law.

I'm a staunch critic of cops gone bad and corruption in police departments, but the two cops in this thread are worthy of our admiration and are a credit to the force. Anyone who can't admit that clearly has personal issues that cloud their view of law enforcement officers.

Then they can abide by the Second Amendment if they want to obey the LAW.

I do. From the description we have of the event, I have no problem if these three American citizens tell her to leave them the hell alone, and she is killed for her lack of compliance. Rights are not things I want until you tell me I can't have them, Rights are things I will absolutely kill over.

You sound like a raving lunatic when you say things like that.

Really ? I thought I just sounded serious.

What do you think a Right is then ? Something you will whine loudly over ?

As strange as it sounds the use of the word, "WILL" instead of 'would' makes a difference in this case.

I don't disagree with that part. Just the expression of your WILLingness to kill. As though you have a gun and are sitting there waiting for someone to offend thy rights so you can kill them.

EDIT: And if a cop usurps your rights do you think the right thing to do in response is to kill them???

Isn't owning my 303 British rifle a more dramatic and undeniable expression ?

I am a very easy going person, but we are discussing gun rights, and that is a life or death matter.

I won't tolerate it from anyone. If they make it a contest to the death, so be it.

I'm sorry but you really do sound borderline.

:rofl :rofl :rofl

Truly an insightful and intelligent post if ever there was one. The 2nd says nothing about "probable cause" and also nothing about Americans carrying handguns around inside cars and without permits. But really, this is what we have come to expect from the cop hater.

So now you promote murder over freedom of speech? :rofl :rofl

Gun rights are not a life and death matter. Get a ****ing grip already... jeez. So you condone killing people for merely saying that guns should be illegal? If a cop went to take yours in order to verify that it was not used in a crime you would kill that person? You do sound serious, in fact, you sound like a serious lunatic.

The 2nd says nothing about "probable cause"

True. Thats the 4th. It describes the things you have to show a judge to have a warrant issued.

and also nothing about Americans carrying handguns around inside cars and without permits.

Simple falsehood.

Keep and bear, shall not be infringed, you lose.

So now you promote murder over freedom of speech? :rofl :rofl

Certainly. If was serious about speaking out, how would you stop me ?

The person trying to violate my right to free speech starts the violence you shortsighted person.

What do you mean, "How would I stop you"? Stop you from murdering a person or from speaking?

What are you on this time? I said that you support murdering a person that wants to speak to these three Americans in order to find out about the gun and you said yes. You support out and out murder, apparently, since the cop is not hindering anything at all in this case.

Your penchant for projecting is astounding, you wanna be.

Are you really this dense ? Read it harder if you need to, but its right there in plain english.

If I was serious about speaking out, how would you stop me ?

Of course you said that, but its a strawman, and nothing like what I said.

I said the three american citizens should have told her to leave them the hell alone, didn't I ?? If she does, nothing happens to her. She has no right to waste those men's time because they are engaging in Constitutional activity, bearing arms.

But will she leave them alone, or will SHE start a fight ?
Who is the aggressor ? Who resorts to threatening violence ?

You know, I responded in kind above, and I did not like letting you bring me down to your level, so I will submit a better response.

You seem to be confused by this statement . . .
Certainly. If was serious about speaking out, how would you stop me ?

I did note that an "I" was missing, but I don't see any way the statement can be misunderstood even with that small typo. If I wanted to exercise my right to free speech, how would you go about stopping me ? The things a person would have to attempt, to silence me, would force me to kill that person. This is how and why free speech is a Right, and thus a thing that I will kill over. What is so confusing ?

Lets take a look. Were you trying to bring up "free speech" in the context of this police stop ? Its not a free speech matter, but rather a second and fourth amendment one. She has no probable cause to detain or threaten these men, as keeping and bearing is constitutionally protected. So, the issue of "free speech" does not even come into this discussion, because it has nothing to do with the content of the discussion, but everything to do with whether she has a right to threaten them into a discussion in the first place. She does not. So, as I have already tried to explain, if they tell her to leave them alone, and she complies, then all is well.

So the cop hater is exposed..

Good work guys.
;)

Am I this dense or are you just an pathetic at proper communication?...

Genuis... LOL!

This is why I am "Clarifying". This is done when one is not clear, like you in this case. How would I stop you from speaking? Physically is the only way. So then you would kill me, or the cop that tried to stop you? Ergo, you support murdering a person that attempts to hinder your right to free speech. You don't take them to court or anything... you support killing them.

No, here is what you said:

You think that because she has no right to waste their time, which is false, and because the 2nd allows people to own guns, which is true, but not uncondititionally... that the police officer, entrusted with enforcing laws, even gun control and usage laws, should be killed if she stops the men, they refuse, and she has to resort to either confronting them physically or arresting them? This is what you are saying here, at least. Maybe you are being unclear, and rude as ever in your charming little boy way, so either clarify or admit it that you support murder and accept that you have major issues. :2razz:

Better... much better.

I think that you meant 'Up" to my level, since you are the one that initiates the hate, and the desire to kill others. :2razz:

What you don't get is the perspective, and I mean that in a positive way, believe it or not. If she, the cop, she a handgun or whatever... she has the right, as is entrusted to her and law enforcement by the public, to investigate if the gun is legally purchased and owned as well as if they have a carry permit.

This is not the old west, we have laws that restrict people from carrying around guns at a whim, and if she sees a gun, she checks it out. If they tell her to leave them alone, that is suspicious. IF they are all legal, they just show her the permit and registration and all that, and she lets them go, all done. Not you though, she askes you a question, you tell the cop to leave, she doesn't and you kill her.

Well, I am sure you believe that the US Constitution protects some "right" to kill her, but it doesn't. Show us where it says that you can. Actually, you just violated her right to life. You are the criminal in this case.

The 2nd is not about carrying around guns, it is about the right to own guns for a specific purpose, why don't you acknowledge this?
