Henry has introduced a new 9mm Carbine with the Homesteader model. The Homesteader Carbine is now available for purchase. (under $800)

This carbine will have tremendous stopping power - - much more than the Ruger 10/22.

I will definitely ask Santa for one of these beauties.

A 9mm carbine is a nice one to have in the collection. I've never shot this one but have several other 9mm carbines that I enjoy very much! Hopefully Santa is good to you.

Ive seen mixed reviews of this weapon online. Most are solid. Honest Outlaw did a review and every 3rd or 4th round jammed. Maybe with some break in time.

Fricken California......

I have several Sub2k carbines, and a few are chambered in 9mm. Its the perfect round for that platform..plus it takes my Glock mags.

A 9mm better be more powerful than a .22 long rifle

But it's competing against .223 / 5.56 rifles.

A pistol round vs. a rifle round. It's no contest.

I also have a couple and just picked up the gen3. It's a great grab and go option.

What’s the realistic max effective range of a 9mm round?

Prob 100yds. Coming out of a 16" barrel puts it on par with a .357 round.

The Gen 3 looks intriguing...I just dont know if I need another gun.

(who said that?????)

How much elevation is needed?

The reason for my question is that my brother recently got a S&W folding carbine and wanted to accurately reach 200 yds accurately. I told him I thought he needed to aim it like howitzer……was I wrong?

At 200yds there would certainly be a lot of drop and loss of energy so not a realistic option. Most 9mm tops out at around 1300fps vs a 5.56 at around 2900 which is better suited for that range. But at 50-100yds a 9mm carbine is fantastic and the S&W is a great choice. That's on my wish list.

I plan to take them out soon and shoot side by side to see if the upgrades in the gen3 are worth it.

There is a lot more powder in a 5.56 and an aerodynamic round. That’s from memory, not a big gun guy any more….

Yep. Smaller diameter bullet designed for speed.

Correct, sir. These arms shouldn't even be compared - the 10/22 was designed mainly for shooting varmints and beer cans off of fence posts - the Homesteader seems to be designed for a different purpose entirely.

But in California, we have really dopey laws with regards to which arms are legal, and which are "illegal". So the comparison was made in this case.

The Ruger Ranch is chambered for .223 (and 5.56 in some models) ammo. however I still would prefer the 9mm over the .223.

I’ve been watching these for a while for the price to drop from $600 at Rural King.

The Honest Outlaw is a wicked channel. 😂

Not I. I love my Ranch Rifle. It is designed for 5.56 but will grudgingly fire .223. (Only the single shot Mini-14 is chambered for .223, all others are 5.56) The Ranch Rifle shoots like a 10/22, but with rifle ammo. Highly accurate and versatile. Even before California outlawed the AR-15 (I'm in Yorba Linda) I was hooked on the Mini-14's. Never cared for pistol grips and prefere the weight of a walnut stock. But that's just my personal preference.

Is there any less-than-lethal ammunition for it ?

Yep. I have a Weatherby. Great rifle. But a buck and a half to shoot a single shot, and at my age I pay for it in rattling my whole skeleton for a week.
I don't shoot often.

I have a 1911 .45 ACP and a 30.06. I take them to the range a few times a year, then give them a good cleaning and never think about them for two months. Ideally, I'd have a pump action shotgun for in between but I never liked them, they're messy.

Never been a fan of PCCs. I would rather have an intermediate rifle caliber, or a submachine pistol.
But I do like wood and steel, so if this floats your boat go for it.
