Hello, hello! I haven't been active on a forum for a few years now, but I'd like to get into some intelligent conversations about politics (mostly North American), and current events. I consider myself to be a centrist, but my viewpoint is rarely in the center. I tend to lean slightly right or slightly left, and I'm finding that my position on a lot of issues has been in flux lately. Looking forward to reading and posting.
 
Greetings Pilgrim. Welcome! May your road be smooth and level. There are no real guardrails, so you can go right over the cliff if you're not careful.
Read the rules, and then read them again. I've run into a ditch a few times, crashed and burned, and had to wait quite awhile for a tow.
Just remember to not take anything too seriously, and you won't get stressed.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I just read the rules (per your prompting). They all seem pretty sensible, and I'm glad that the forum is moderated well.

BP: Well met! Cigarettes without filters are.... no. But life without filters... yeah, sometimes. Sometimes that can be great.

It's the usual gang of idiots sprinkled with more than a few bright lights both on the liberal and conservative side.
There are even two or three sorta kinda libertarians who are okay, some socies, also pretty okay.
We have fascists, total out and out card carrying fascists, some are even good old Jew hating fascists too.
But don't let the idiots get you cornered, if you've been on another forum you may even recognize a few over here, both the good and the bad.
(and the fash)

We have a place where a certain amount of pissing matches and flamefests happen, but watch the Vegas Rule, it is for real touch and you die if you break that rule.
Treat it like the goblin containment field in Ghostbusters, do not ever shut off the containment field and respect the containment field or you die.

The good folks outnumber the bad but there are days where the douchenozzles eat up more bandwidth.
They all seem to think you fit in one of their boxes, prejudicial, bigoted, not necessary to actually know anything about you, you just fit in this or that box and
that is where they try to attack you, you know how this works, yo.
Power through it if you can, rise above.

It just amazes me to think that, if this is a microcosm represantation of how society today is made up, we beef hooked.
Oh and lastly...we've discovered that we really seriously actually HAVE a small smattering of real actual gen-u-wine Russkeys.
It would seem they are paid because they invest a lot of time here.
Wasn't too long ago when suggesting the presence of paid Russian trolls was laughed at but folks seem to have stopped laughing.

Be careful with @BitterPill. He'll try to sell you MAGA merch insisting it's made in the USA, but rest assured, it's not. I've heard he offers pretty good deals on Trump NFTs however.

If you don't suffer from TDS, thicken your skin.

Rules are important, but some rules don't matter all that much if you suffer from TDS...for example, Rule 3 and Rule 4.

Actually @MaryJoLisa the member above is known for wild exaggeration. There are exactly two bright lights here - myself and @BitterPill who you've already met.

Bitterpill is a little extreme and acts out. We're trying to get him to stop peeing in museums.
